Even though summer is over for students, that doesn't mean 'summer reading' should suddenly end. Having a constant reading list has helped my daughter stay well above her reading level. I use the school-provided reading list as a guide, and once the summer is over we continue with all the books through her grade level and beyond. She reads one at a time, and there isn't a rush to do so, but I have noticed the more she reads, the more she enjoys reading (which is exactly how I am with books!).
Because I have an insatiable need to actually hold the book I am reading, I choose to purchase books in store at our local Barnes & Noble. It's there that I can browse through the sections, checking out cover after cover, until I find my newest picks for nightly reading. I've got my daughter in the habit of scouring the bookshelves for new reads, too— so neither one of us ever leave empty handed!
One of the things I have noticed lately at B&N was an offer for the Barnes & Noble Mastercard. While I don't personally have this card there seems to be some great benefits for parents and college students purchasing textbooks, books, and supplies during the back-to-school season and beyond.

I totally remember how much my college textbooks were, and had I been purchasing them from Barnes & Noble, the Barnes & Noble Mastercard would have been a great help. The average cost for books and supplies last year was $1,225 at public colleges and $1,244 at private colleges* — Just by using the Barnes & Noble MasterCard for those purchases at campus Barnes & Noble bookstores or at BN.com could give you an immediate $60 savings!
The Barnes & Noble MasterCard is the best card for college students, parents of school-age children, homeschoolers and reading enthusiasts who are spending a significant amount of money on school supplies, textbooks and books for school.
