Recently I was sent 2 boxes of Fruit Loops Cereal. One box was the original Froot Loops with no added fiber, the other box was the new Froot Loops with Fiber. Our challenge was to do a taste test to see if we could tell the difference between the two.

My daughter and I each had a bowl of the two cereals. It was obvious after the first few bites that there was no way to tell the difference between the two. The Fruit Loops with added fiber is just as yummy as the original Froot Loops, with the added benefit of extra fiber! We also received 2 boxes of Apple Jacks Cereal with added fiber, and again, we could not taste the difference.

In our house these two cereals are a staples. I am sure there are better choices out there, but my daughter enjoys both Froot Loops and Apple Jacks. At this point in her life I am concerned with her getting a full breakfast with nutrients and both these cereals have that with the addition of milk. It is nice to see that Kellogg’s is making the effort to add the extra fiber in their cereals.
Why is fiber important?
Fiber is part of a healthy diet for all kids. It helps aid the digestive system and helps nutrients to be absorbed to turn food into the energy your kids need, keeping them going throughout the day.And starting kids out right with healthful eating habits, like including fiber in their daily diets, is a great practice that’s likely to continue into the future.

Kelloggs seemed to go on this internet campaign with blogging Moms on the “same great taste” of Fruit Loops (with fiber). Bull! Seems in this economy fiber must be a cheap filler. They taste like faintly fruit flavored sawdust. I loved this cereal for over 45 years but that’s over now. The bowl went down the garbage disposal with the milk and the remainder of the box was returned to the store for a refund. I bought Capt Crunch which has now moved to the number one spot on my favorite cereal list. Fruit Loops with fiber sucks. Do kids really have to worry about their colonic health or did Kellogg’s go with filler in the same way yogurt got smaller, then, go on this blogging Mom campaign in order to wipe out negative comments from the top searches? Well….taste doesn’t lie.. You can’t blog out that.
Yeah these blogging mom things are so misleading. They come up high in the search engines but are just a bunch of bunk and propaganda to get people to think there is actually something good about the horrible tasting classic kellogg’s cereals that are now ‘updated’ with fiber. Interestingly, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks used to have only natural flavors, but the new Fiber versions add Artificial Flavors, WTF? I guess Kellogs forgot the 80’s when the big buzz for moms was to avoid artifical flavors/colors in their kids’ cereals…
I hope Kellogg’s FAILS MISERABLY with the sales of the new fiber versions and returns to the old recipes.
As for me I will not buy a box of the new stuff, it really is that bad.
Thank you Alice and Pete! These “mommies” who are saying they can’t taste the difference between the old and the new must have drank scalding hot coffee before trying them, or the “mommies” are just complete liars hired by Kelloggs to perpetuate this lie!! My favorite cereal has been destroyed!
I am finding these comments hilarious! I am by no means a Froot Loops connoisseur, so honestly I didn’t taste a difference. My daughter, who eats a lot of different types of cereals, didn’t noticed and ate the whole box without making a comment that it tasted different. I really wish Kellogg’s was paying me to post this.
