I’ve had Las Vegas on my travel list wish for 10 years. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I found out I would be attending BlogWorld Expo ’10 as part of the Traveling Mamas for the Travel Track. Shannon, Leigh and I also decided this would be a great opportunity to make the experience even more fabulous by working in a girlfriend getaway!
I arrived in Vegas at midnight, which didn’t give me much time to do anything other than check in to the hotel and try to wind down to get on west coast time. We stayed at the ultra-luxe Aria Resort & Casino. The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were A-MAZING!
We had a deluxe queen city view with a remote that controlled everything in the room. Pretty swanky. The perfect Las Vegas hotel for a girlfriend getaway!
As much as I tried, I couldn’t get to sleep. This was to my disadvantage in the coming days. Jet lag hit me pretty hard and I was miserable for awhile.
Our first full day in Vegas we had some business to attend at BlogWorld to get the speakers ready for the travel track. After that, we had an appointment to tour Zappos headquarters in Henderson, NV.
We were picked up by the zawesome Zappos Blog Team (Graham, Darren, and Pat) in the “Blog Bus”, which is very similar to the Traveling Mamas logo. Coincidence? I think not
We toured Zappos headquarters and had a delicious lunch. The guided tour is actually free to anyone visiting Vegas. Just visit Zappos Insights to schedule a day and time (based on availability).
I was really impressed with the Zappos culture, and if I had the opportunity, I would seriously consider working for Zappos- It’s a fun work environment with free lunch everyday! What’s not to love?
After the tour, we were interviewed in the Blogbus- you can view the craziness here.
Before we left, we signed the Zappos wall of zawesomeness, forever leaving our mark
From there, we went back to Mandalay Bay, listened to the keynote, and then headed to Aria to freshen up before dinner. One of the things that surprised me most about Vegas was the size of the strip. Going in, I thought we would be able to walk from hotel to hotel- the distance is just under a mile. This was so not the case, and we had to cab it every time. Vegas tip: A cab ride to or from the airport should only be $10-$14. A mile ride from hotel to hotel on the strip, about $10 w/tip.
Day 1 of our girlfriend getaway continues with dinner and a show…
Special thanks to Zappos for the tour and Aria Resort for our accommodations.

Sounds like you had fun! I’ve only been in the Vegas airport on layovers – I’d love to spend some time there!
