Please Anchor your Dressers and Furniture to the Walls!

This is a very sad but important post for parents with babies, toddlers, and even older children.

A woman I know from an online message board lost her dear son Corey who was just two weeks shy of turning 2, due to a tragic accident involving his dresser falling on him.

Here is the news story from their local paper- http://ydr.inyork.com/ci_8790513

and some video from their local news – http://www.whtm.com/news/stories/0408/508729_video.html?ref=newsstory

Unfortunately this accident could have been prevented if his dresser had been properly secured to the wall. I know for a lot of us moms probably have furniture that is not secure and it takes a horrible accident such as this to get things taken care of.

I urge you all to look around your house tonight to make sure all heavy furniture is properly fastened/secure to the wall. This is a very inexpensive thing to do and may save your child’s life.

Here are some things you can buy to make sure furniture is anchored to the wall:

Kidco Anti-Tip Furniture Straps

No-Tip Furniture Brackets

I am very pleased with how so many moms in my online community have come together and collectively we have donated over $10,000 to help this family with funeral costs and other necessities as they face this difficult time they have ahead.

Please pray for this family as they also have 2 other children who lost their little brother.

Corey Halpin will be dearly missed.

How awful! Our bookcases are anchored, but our tv isn’t – now I’m going online to find something to do that. Thanks for this very important warning, and my deepest sympathies to Corey’s family :(

So sad. And there are dangers everywhere for our children. So hard to keep them protected always, but this is something small that can be done.
