Review: Your Shape for Nintendo Wii

For 8 weeks now I have been doing the Your Shape Challenge using Your Shape for Wii featuring Jenny McCarthy.

Your Shape for Nintendo Wii is unique in that a camera (like a web-cam) is included with the game. The camera is designed to show your full body doing the workout next to a virtual Jenny McCarthy. Jenny critiques your moves and tells you when you are doing something right or wrong.

Set up for Your Shape is a breeze! You simply plug the USB web cam into the back of your Wii and place it on top of your TV. The Your Shape disc is like any other Wii game and goes in the console. Setup take minutes.

From there you will fill out your personal profile with your starting weight and other basic information. Your then ready to start your first graded workout! The game uses your score to plan a workout regime that is suited to your activity level and fitness goals.

What I Love

- Watching myself workout on the screen. When my form is better I burn more calories and overall have a more productive workout. It also keeps things interesting. Sometimes I just like to watch myself more than the virtual Jenny. It is motivating to see yourself actually doing the workout correctly.

- Calendar feature that shows me what days I worked out. I sometimes forget to mark my own calendar so it’s a nice automatic backup.

- There is an option to use a stability ball, hand weights or a bench step with the workout. It’s nice to mix things up.

- Customized workout for every body. The game designs a program specifically for you based on your fitness level, goals and schedule.

-Controller-free exercise!! The camera monitors your workout so there is nothing more you need to do…other than the moves.

- I feel accomplished after each workout and I actually sweat. A big plus.

- Yoga & Bikini Ready workout options

What I Don’t Like

-I have a love/hate relationship with virtual Jenny. At times I find her annoying, especially when she tells me I do something wrong, and then a second later tells me I’m doing it right. While I still try to  do the moves correctly, sometime I just let go and do what I want- I figure I’m still burning calories!

-Another thing that gets me is repetitive moves. Often I will find the workout consists of the same moves over and over. The game does have over 400 exercises, but it takes quite a few workouts to see the variety. Obviously over time you will notice the different moves.

- When I think I’m doing something right and Jenny tells me I’m wrong. Enough said.

I made a little video doing some of the warm-up moves so you can see how it works. Ignore my daughter, she was cheering me on :)

Overall, I’m really enjoying the Your Shape workout. I have not lost a lot of weight in the challenge, but I can somewhat blame that on my diet. Like any fitness program you need to continually workout and eat right to get in shape. I will continue to do Your Shape even after the challenge is over and especially before summer to get swimsuit ready.

The Your Shape Challenge is sponsored by Collective Bias, Ubisoft and Walmart. I have received incentives from these sponsors to keep me motivated during the challenge. All opinions are my own.
