I participated in a campaign on behalf of Millennial Central for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating. All opinions are my own.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I make an honest effort to use safe and healthy products in my home for the sake of my family. There are a million different chemicals in things we use everyday that may or may not be healthy — In fact, more than 80,000 chemicals available in the United States, like those in toys and food containers, have never been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment.
As a mom, it drives me crazy that there are products on the market that could be harmful to me and my child. How does this even happen in the US? Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to many health risks, such as Cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and various reproductive problems.
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976, and unlike other major environmental laws, has never been updated. As it currently stands, tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals continue to be used in the marketplace without proper testing or disclosure by the companies that produce them. The EPA has required testing on less than 10% of chemicals produced.
What Can You Do You To Spread Awareness And Get Involved?
I've partnered with Seventh Generation, a brand that I use and love, to help spread awareness about the importance of chemical reform in the United States. In a perfect world, all products sold for home use would be thoroughly tested for health & safety, or at least adequately disclosed with risks, so that the consumer could make an informed decision. I know I wouldn't buy any product with chemicals that are know to cause cancer or other illness ... would you?
You can become a Toxin Freedom Fighter by signing Seventh Generation’s petition to urge Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976. Seventh Generation is hoping to reach its goal of 100,000 signatures by April 24th. So what are you waiting for? Sign the petition today and help keep unnecessary toxins out of the products we buy!
