Cuban Hot Dog
Can I just tell you how much I love hot dogs, or franks, as they’re sometimes called? I’m not sure what it is about them, but a good dog is satisfying on every level, especially during the summer months when they’re fired up on the grill.
I’m pretty simple: I love my franks with just ketchup, a dab of mustard and a bun, but every so often I experiment with new hot dog toppings to please my family. My husband is the real hot dog guru—he’s always up for something new!
The other day we were talking our favorite South Florida sandwiches, and the Cuban sandwich came up. If you haven’t had a real Cuban, you need to get to Tampa, Miami or Key West ASAP because they’re out of this world good!
Now, I don’t claim to be able to make a real Cuban sandwich on my own (I go to the professionals for that!), but I thought the combination of ham, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles would taste amazing on a hot dog – and, oh was I right!
Cuban Hot Dog Recipe
Cuban Hot Dog Ingredients:
- Hot Dogs, grilled (For this recipe I use Bar-S Franks)
- Swiss Cheese
- Sliced Ham
- Dill Pickles, sliced
- Yellow Mustard
- Hot Dog Buns, toasted
How to Make a Cuban Style Hot Dog
1. Prepare grilled hot dogs and toasted buns.
2. Add yellow mustard, Swiss cheese, sliced ham and a dill pickle to the open-faced bun.
3. Slice hot dogs length-wise and place on top.
4. Press everything together and enjoy!
