Summertime in Florida equates to creepy crawlies in and around our home. It’s a subject that’s not fun or pretty to talk about, but it just goes with the territory of living in the south. Two of my biggest nemeses are Palmetto bugs and wasps.
If you’re lucky enough to not live in an area with Palmetto bugs, be thankful. These jumbo roaches love to sneak in through open garage and patio doors after it rains. I probably wouldn't notice half of them if it wasn't for our cats, who chase after the bugs like they're toys. Once you realize the size of the bugs, they'll totally creep you out. I've often chased them out of the house with a broom because it would be beyond disgusting to squash them like the bugs they are. Gross, gross, gross!
My other bug enemy are wasps. For some reason they like to make their nests right at our front door. The build them way up high, where it's hard to reach and we only notice them when it's too late. My daughter is particularly afraid of getting stung, so it's a problem we have to stay on top of. My husband, Rick, is our "Bug Hero" — I'm not sure how happy he is with that role, but he's the one we've delegated to do our dirty work.
My husband uses Hot Shot® Wasp & Hornet Killer3 aerosol because it's easy to use, and it completely destroys the wasps at up to 27 feet — that means he doesn't have to get up on a latter to reach their ugly nests.
We've had so much success with Hot Shot® Insecticides outside, we're giving it a try inside on those pesky Palmetto bugs. I have a can of Hot Shot® Ant & Roach Plus Germ Killer in Fresh Floral Scent that I'm going to spray — or I should say, my husband, the bug hero, is going to spray — along our baseboards and in between the crevices of our doors where they come in. We're not letting bugs feel at home in our home!

Oh my gosh! What is it with wasps making nests at the front door!? This happens at our house every year too! I have used my share of wasp spray! I am happy we don't have those other critters here! They sound horrendous!

I wish my hubby was the bug hero, but he's skittish of them too. We get wasps too and those suckers are nasty! I'll have to check out Bug Hero.

Oooh, I need some of this. The hornets haven't been as bad this year but I've still seen a couple.

My husband is the bug hero. My son would like to, but we don't let him kill any bugs because we are afraid of him getting too overly confident and wanting to try to kill a scorpion on his own. So, my husband is our official bug killer for everything.
Robyn
We had a nest at our front door the last two years. This year they haven't come back thank goodness!

My husband is the bug hero, but I always have HotShot on-hand in case he isn't around!
Crystal
We've had a bug guy come out every 3 months to deal with bugs. I just couldn't handle them anymore! But this makes me think I could probably handle it on my own & save a ton of money.

UUUUGGGGGHHH! I just got the creeps reading this! We used to live in NC so I KNOW exactly what bugs you are talking about. The first time I ever saw one was on our shower curtain and when I came at it with a broom, it took flight! I almost died...
Glad you have a bug hero!!

My little dog Toby likes to eat moths and beetles, he is definitely MY bug hero LOL

Yikes those Palmetto bugs sounds gross indeed and as for wasps I am allergic so... no bugs allowed near me. Brave hubby you have 🙂
Ashley

I hate wasps and bees. Hate. Loathe. They scare the !*&^ out of me. I should carry a can of this on me at all times, just because I hate the things so much.
Liz Mays
I'm the reluctant bug hero because I'm the one who's here to do it all. The wasps are forever trying to form new hives. They're such jerks!
trisha
In our house its kinda a mix, depends the TYPE of bug. I will only touch spiders w/ the vacuum hose.

ME! My husbad (and kids) are petrified of bugs. Makes me a little crazy! haha! We have a problem with hornets right now! I feel like I am being held hostage in our car when we come home because they dive bomb us. Just today we got some hornet killer and got one mid air! DEAD! Only a few to go!
