Are you ready to warm up after a long, cold winter? With even the southern United States experiencing unseasonably cold weather this winter you might be scratching your head as to where a great spring break vacation can be had. Iรขโฌโขve got a few suggestions worth considering รขโฌโ and all of them can be visited without a passport!
US Virgin Islands
The US Virgin Islands are made up of the three large islands of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas as well as many other small islands located 40 miles east of Puerto Rico. They are considered a US territory making them one of the few Caribbean destinations that require no passport (for US citizens) to visit. Year round temperatures in this tropical haven remain in the 70รขโฌโขs and 80รขโฌโขs. There is a robust tourist infrastructure and activities for kids of all ages. Of course there are plenty of amazing beaches but visit the colonial towns like Charlotte Amalie and stop at Fort Thomas for a glimpse into these islands past.
Savannah and Sea Island Georgia
Families often first think of a visit to Florida when spring break rolls around, but why not consider northern neighbor? Coastal Georgia is beautiful and far less crowded that Florida. Savannah has amazing parks, a rich history, and some of the best food in the American South. Forsythe Park is a favorite for kids owing to the multi-colored water sprays that stay on long into the night. Boating trips can be arranged and there is a trolley that runs around town. Tybee Island is a shuttle ride away and an easy way to have a beach day. If you want an even more coastal experience, Sea Island is 85 miles south of Savannah. While the prices may be higher, it is after all where Americanรขโฌโขs rich and famous played for generations, if seclusion and personal attention are what youรขโฌโขre after, you will find it on Sea Island.
Coronado Island, California
Some of the very best beaches in America? Thatรขโฌโขs right they are on Coronado Island in sunny California! This island was uninhabited until the late 1880รขโฌโขs and is connected to San Diego via bridge. This island is all about outdoor life. Long stretches of clean beaches, bike and skating rentals, surfing, boating, paddle boarding and tennis are just some of the activities available. The art scene also flourishes here with breathtaking gardens, public art programs, and a busy theater community.
Arizona Ranch
Hey Dude! Not every spring break has to include an ocean. Arizona is an excellent destination for families after warm weather but something a little different. The Arizona Dude Ranch Association helps bring together visitors and guest ranches to experience the American West. There are several options for accommodations from rustic digs to luxury cabins, with most offering with horse riding lessons, trail rides, childrenรขโฌโขs activities, and trail lunches/dinners. There are dozens of options available and no matter what you choose itรขโฌโขs sure to be a unique spring break experience!
