Last football season I was introduced to the amazing (somewhat evil) world of Fantasy Football. I never had that much interest in it, seemed to me to be a complete waste of time. I get mental enough watching “Da Bears” play as it is. I figured complete immersion would sooner than later send me to the doctor looking for the “real good” blood pressure medication. But as happens to most men, my buddies hounded me enough that I finally buckled and gave in (this is a process that is brilliantly utilized by my wife and daughter).
I now know the truth, my friends just wanted to drag another person into their misery. Fantasy Football is both brilliant and maddening, engaging sometimes and down right brutal others…I am completely hooked. First you sign up for a league of your choice, they have free ones and it then can go from a $25 buy in to $1000, depending on how hard you want to cry when a 20 year old, who still can’t grow facial hair, takes your money. Then you get invited to a draft party…that’s a very nice term that loosely translates into “lots of beer drinking”. Once you have your team put together, the good times really start. Every week you are matched up against someone in your league…most of the “team names” consist of bad puns and body parts best not mentioned in mixed company. Not only are you watching your “home team”, you’re watching everyone else’s teams. Between utilizing the computer, a tablet and trying to manage 3 T.V.’s…I thought I was going crash my entire broadband system. If you make the choice to play Fantasy Football, make sure you have a good service provider, like bt broadband packages. You’re going to need it!!!
Every upset rips your heart out, every win an amazing victory– I’m pretty sure most of the grey in my beard can be linked back to this past football season and I earned every one of them. I promised myself that I would try to lead a peaceful, calm existence until the next Fantasy Football draft …Â Is it football season yet?
