I was in South Beach, Miami last week with my good friend, Shannon, and her daughter. To pass some time we went window shopping at the Lincoln Road Mall. If you haven't been it's an outdoor mall with big name stores as well as boutiques. One of the mannequins was wearing a sequined gown in one of the smaller boutiques that caught the eye of my friend's daughter. She was just invited to prom the week before and insisted that this was the perfect dress. The only problem? It cost $1200. Shannon let her try in the gown, and I agreed that it was stunning, a perfect fit actually, but the price was hard to ignore.
Having my own daughter, who has yet to hit high school, the costs associated with this time honored occasion are numbing  to look forward  to. I know my mom didn't spend nearly as much on my prom gown! So I got to thinking, is this really the norm for prom, or are they reasonable —and equally exquisite— dresses out there?
Well, I am happy to say that there are other options. JenJenhouse.com sells amazingly beautiful prom gowns for a fraction of the price. The $1200 dress my friend's daughter fell in love with? A similar version on JenJenHouse is less than $200!
While not exact, this dress is equally as beautiful as the one in South Beach. I've passed the link on to her mom and I can't wait to hear what she thinks. Even if this dress doesn't work out, there are tons of other prom dresses on the website:Â http://www.jenjenhouse.com/Prom-Dresses-c18/Â .
Do you have a daughter that's headed to prom ... how much did you spend on her gown?

I love that mall! You know, I thought I saw this same dress on a designer site recently. It is gorgeous! I'll have to check out JenJenHouse. Thank you!
