It seems everyone I know is pregnant these days. Over the past few years, I've noticed the amount of variety in birth announcements-- I've received everything from an interactive email announcement to the traditional card stock with bow. Parents are becoming more creative with social media, even announcing the birth of their new baby on Facebook and Twitter.
While I'm not pregnant, it's fun to think about what creative birth announcements I would consider if I ever have another. I would definitely do something non-traditional, as I had the standard card with photo to announce the birth of my daughter. I admit, the cards were GORGEOUS and I love having them for a keepsake. I think I would actually have two different announcement if I do it again. The first would be traditional with a twist. Maybe a more contemporary look, like the bold lettering of this card with a full frame photo of the baby on the back--
These would be sent in the mail to close friends and family to keep.
The second birth announcement I would do through email, or possibly post on Facebook for all my social media friends. Since I have quite a list of online friends, it would be too expensive to send cards in the mail to everyone -- a virtual card would be inexpensive, and would reach a large number of people. There are a few online companies that specialize in virtual announcements. From what I've heard, they're easy to make: just upload a photo, enter some text and send out to social media accounts. If done right, this casual announcement can look very classy.
The birth of a baby is always a big deal and should be celebrated. As much as social media is becoming a trend with announcing big life events, I think the traditional card should always be considered because it is a true keepsake. I will never not love getting a beautiful card in the mail to celebrate a new life.
