We drive by a local polo club on a daily basis, and for years my daughter has asked me to let her ride the horses. I admit, I'm not crazy about horses, primarily due to the fact that I know nothing about equestrian sports and there is a fear factor -- like what if she falls off?
Still, she's been persistent and I thought I would look up exactly what goes into equestrian riding and all the equipment it entails, besides, well ... the horse!
Here's a list of standard horse riding equipment & accessories for a child:.
- Riding Helmet
- Body Protection Vest
- Riding Boots
- Breeches or Jodhpurs
- Chaps
- Riding Gloves
- Riding Crop
- Riding Shirt
- Riding Jacket
Then, there's equipment for the horse:
- Horse Grooming Box
- Saddle
- Horse Rugs
- Horse Boots
Clearly, this sport can get very expensive which is why searched for this equipment on Equestrianclearance. For example, chaps from equestrian clearance start at £6.99 ... I think that's about $10!
After considering the expense and the amount of equipment needed -- not to mention the commitment -- I don't think I'm going to enroll my daughter into equestrian training any time room. I will consider a summer day camp, or even a vacation at a dude ranch to get the horse riding bug out of her system.
Has your child ever asked to ride horses as a sport?
