For hard working moms—or really anyone who works hard and keeps up a healthy family life—rewarding yourself with a vacation is vital. Vacations rejuvenate the soul and give you something to look forward to during the grind of your career. Remember, stress ages us more than most other things. Eliminating stress is hard to do, but keeping yourself motivated is a great way to counter it. And the prospect of an upcoming vacation is enough to keep many people from going postal during their work week. So, there's my pitch for the value of a vacation, now let's talk about what to do during your vacation.
Here are my top 5 suggestions:
Cruises—It's not exactly the most original idea for a vacation, but who cares? It's not a competition, it's supposed to be about relaxing and being happy. What better way to escape from your worries than to be sailed around from Caribbean island to island, watching porpoises and dolphins, partying, and being catered to and pampered by a devoted staff. Never been on a cruise? You're in a for a treat.
Anything that involves a hammock on a tropical beach—Sometimes simple is best. Avoid stressful plans and itineraries and aim for creature comforts. The most relaxing, rejuvenating vacations I've had simply involved lounging around in hammocks, drinking Mai Tais and soaking up sun rays on gorgeous beaches. Sounds pretty nice, huh?
Ireland—Ireland is an amazing nation full of lush, green hills, extremely nice people, wonderful dark beer (Guinness anyone?), and soul-cheering music.
South America—Whether it's Honduras, the Amazon jungle in Brazil, Argentina, the mountains of Chile or Peru, or a jaunt to the Galapagos Islands, a trip to South America is unlikely to disappoint. The combination of breath-taking scenery, exciting local customs, and delicious culinary traditions makes this region of the world a true delight.
Like I said before, vacations are about reducing stress in your life. Therefore, choosing your vacation spot is a deeply personal process that will be different for everyone. The ideas above are just a few of the vacations I've taken in my life and none of them disappointed. An important consideration is, of course, affordability—you don't want to be stressed out about money during your vacation. That defeats the whole purpose. Fortunately, with a little planning, all the options above can be managed without breaking the bank.
