Las Vegas– A Family Destination

Las Vegas has been on my to-do list for awhile now. There is a good chance I will get there for the first time this October. While I would love to getaway with just my husband, in the back of my mind I’m considering making this a family affair. After all, we did family-friendly Mardi Gras!

While Vegas is the mega-center for casino games, there is so much more on the strip. Quite a few of the Las Vegas hotels have family-friendly attractions of their own.

Here are some of my top picks.

  • Disney’s The Lion King at Mandalay Bay – One of the most popular shows on the strip, The Lion King will come to life right before your eyes. This show is recommended for children 6 years and older; tickets start at $75.
  • Madame Tussaud’s at the Venetian – Always a favorite, spend the afternoon posing with celebrity wax figures. Great activity for teens.
  • Fountains of Bellagio- This free show is sure to amaze! Monday – Friday, 3 p.m. – midnight. Saturday and Sunday, noon – midnight. The fountains run every half-hour until 8 p.m. and every 15 minutes after that until midnight.
  • Gondola Ride at the Venetian – Transport your family to Venice with a scenic indoor gondola ride at the Venetian. Adults $15, children $7.50.
  • Adventuredome Theme Park at Circus Circus – voted one of the best family attractions in Las Vegas, Adventuredome has 25 rides and attractions. $24.95 for an all day adult pass, $14.95 for a junior.
  • Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay – Come face-to-face with some of the earth’s most fascinating creatures in North America’s only predator-based aquarium and exhibit. Adults $16.95, children $10.95.
  • The Eiffel Tower observation deck at Paris – For an amazing view of the valley, take your family to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris Hotel. $10 for adults, $7 for children.

As far as where to stay? My top choice is the Four Seasons Las Vegas.  This non-gaming hotel is located on the south-end of the Las Vegas Strip. Guests have access to Mandalay Bay’s casino, water park and children’s amenities, including babysitting.

Other great choices are Mandalay Bay, Red Rock Resort & Casino, Excalibur Hotel and Circus Circus…depending on your taste.

One thing’s for sure, there’s enough entertainment in Las Vegas to keep the whole family occupied!
