It's a total clique to send mom flowers on Mother's Day, but even when I tell my husband not to waste his money --because flowers eventually wilt and die -- I still LOVE to receive them. There is something so uplifting about fresh cut flowers in a beautiful vase. These centerpieces can really make a room come alive, and if I could afford it, I would have fresh flowers in my home 24/7. Since we're not in that ballpark yet, I will settle for a bouquet once for twice a year. While any flowers will do for me, I do have some favorites. As I'm getting older, I also like more nontraditional arrangements versus the old-standby of roses.
Here are a few examples of my current faves, any of which I would be happy to receive on Mother's Day, and I bet your mom would love, too:
-- My personal favorite is the orchid, because it is my favorite flower. Orchids look so beautiful in a home and if you take care of it, they can live 8-12 weeks and re-bloom.
-- I usually associate calla lily's with weddings, but a bunch in a clear glass vase look so elegant and sophisticated.
-- When I want to get a little "zen", I ask my husband for an arrangement of lucky bamboo. These indoor plants are among my favorites because they last forever with proper care.
-- Sunflowers give any space a pop of color and they are very inexpensive if you're on a budget.
