I'm almost embarrassed to say that I didn't get a chance to see the ABC comedy Dr. Ken before going behind the scenes on the set in Los Angeles. However, my husband and daughter had been watching and assured me that it was hilarious.
I've been a fan of Ken Jeong's previous work (how can you not love him as Mr. Chow in The Hangover!?)— so I made it my mission to tune in as soon as I returned home. I actually didn't have to wait long because the show was offered on my flight from LA! As promised by my family, it was super funny family show— and now we're all watching together.
Before I share some photos of my time on the set of Dr. Ken, here's a little bit of background about the show.
Doctor turned actor/comedian Ken Jeong (Community, The Hangover), plays Dr. Ken, a brilliant physician with no bedside manner. He is always trying to be a good doctor, as well as a good husband and dad to his two kids. However, these good intentions have a way of driving everyone crazy at both work and at home. Luckily, his therapist wife Allison is just the right partner to keep things sane.
Dr. Ken stars Ken Jeong as Dr. Ken, Suzy Nakamura as Allison, Tisha Campbell-Martin as Damona, Dave Foley as Pat, Jonathan Slavin as Clark, Albert Tsai as Dave and Krista Marie Yu as Molly.
Our time on the set was very cool because it was totally decked out for the holidays and the cast was in the middle of filming. There were at least five or six different sets in a row, spanning the Welltopia Medical Group office to the family's home. The set was simply gorgeous and you have to gave props to the designers for making it so picture-perfect. Here are some photos from behind the scenes.
After the tour we had a brief Q&A with the cast. One of the most interesting things I learned about Ken Jeong was that he was a doctor before he became and actor. His wife (in real life) is still a part-time physician!
Everyone in the cast was so friendly and inviting— I had an amazing time!
Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30 PM EST on ABC!
Special thanks to ABC for hosting me during this event. All opinions are my own.
