Snowman Hot Cocoa Bombs
What Kind of Chocolate Can You Use to Make Hot Cocoa Bombs?
I generally prefer to use those melting chocolate discs because they seem to melt more smoothly, stay smooth longer and I have less trouble with them seizing up that I do with chocolate chips.
And although this particular recipe calls for white chocolate, which you can totally get in chip form, if you were wanting to make colorful hot cocoa bombs, using candy melts is nice because they're already colorful.
What Do You Put Inside Hot Cocoa Bombs?
I like to stick with hot cocoa mix (to make the cocoa experience a little sweeter) and, of course, a handful of mini-marshmallows. Sometimes I mix it up and add other things though, like candy or sprinkles. If you decide you want to toss a piece of candy inside or a few sprinkles, make sure they will melt easily, add something whether it's visual or flavorful (no sense in throwing something in there for no reason) and compliment chocolate flavor. Otherwise, what's the point?!
How Many Marshmallows Do You Put Inside Hot Cocoa Bombs?
I like to fill my DIY cocoa bombs with as many marshmallows as I can squeeze in there, particularly if I think that the kids might be drinking them. Marshmallows are notorious for melting in hot cocoa, so I like to put more, knowing they won't ultimately seem like that many. I generally try to get somewhere between 5-8 marshmallows in each of the hot cocoa bombs, but if you think you can get more in there, it's all on you!
What You Need to Make Snowman Hot Cocoa Bombs
- 2 cups White Candy Melts
- 2 cups Hot Chocolate Mix
- 2 cups Mini Marshmallows
- Gold Sparkle Gel Icing
- Snowman Sprinkles
How to Make Snowman Hot Cocoa Bombs
- Place white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave per the directions on the package.
- Place 2 tablespoon melted candy into one half of a bomb mold and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat with 12 bomb mold halves.
- Place the chocolate filled bomb molds into the freezer for 5 minutes.
- Remove molds from the freezer and gently tap the sides of the mold, pressing on one side of the chocolate to make the chocolate slide out of the mold.
- Fill 6 of the molds with 2 tablespoon hot chocolate mix, 1 teaspoon sprinkles, and 6-8 mini marshmallows.
- Heat a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch (about 20 seconds).
- Press one of the empty chocolate bomb halves open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim of the chocolate cup.
- Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of one of the filled cups. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb. If desired, use your finger, dipped in the melted candy, to rub the seam and join it more securely.
- Using the sparkle gel, drizzle the icing over the assembled hot cocoa bombs then immediately follow by sprinkling the snowman sprinkles.
- Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
- To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 2 cups hot milk over the top. Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy!
