These Swirl Heart M&M Hot Cocoa Bombs are an easy, delicious dessert that can be whipped up in less than 10 minutes. They're perfect for a quick treat on those chilly winter nights!
These bombs are so easy to make and they taste just as good as the store-bought hot cocoa packages you've been buying all these years. You'll never spend another dollar on packaged M&Ms again because this recipe is so simple and budget friendly. All you need is a few ingredients and one pot!
How to make hot cocoa bombs
You’ll want to use a silicone mold so that the chocolate cups are easy to remove. Silicone will withstand the heat, chills easily and just is a magical material all around.
Which chocolate is best to use for hot cocoa bombs?
The candy melts I prefer are very convenient. You can use dark chocolate, vanilla or any type of high-quality melting chocolate and they will all work the same way! If you're using a bar of chocolate instead, chop it up into small pieces to avoid uneven heating if melted in different ways.
You can melt your chocolate in the microwave in 15-second increments, or use the old-style double boiler method. Just need melted chocolate.
Filling your cocoa bombs
Aside from hot cocoa mix, you can add tons of other mini ingredients inside your cocoa bombs! Choose the fillings you want to go inside (mini marshmallows, peppermint pieces, the list goes on), then fill one side. A little overflow is okay because the top sphere will cover it.
To attach the two halves of chocolate together, you’ll use a paint brush or other small tool (or even your finger) and spread melted chocolate as an “adhesive”. As they set, the chocolate will harden and the pieces will be attached.
Toppings for Hot Cocoa Bombs
You'll never have to worry about running out of ideas for topping your cocoa bombs! You can top them with anything from chocolate drizzles or caramel, mini-chocolate chips, and even cookies. After you’ve topped them off with the toppings of your choice, refrigerate it all so they set in place.
Are hot cocoa bombs hard to make?
Even though they look complicated, hot cocoa bombs are actually incredibly easy to make. The kids can even spoon the chocolate into the silicone molds, and take turns spreading it around. Of course, pouring hot milk over the top and cracking them open is always everyone’s favorite part.
