Winnie the Pooh Hot Cocoa Bombs
How to make hot cocoa bombs
For a "normal" hot cocoa bomb, you'd need a silicone baking mold, about 2.5” in diameter, in the shape of a sphere so they easily fit into mugs. But, this particular hot chocolate bomb calls for a more unique silicone mold - a Winnie the Pooh shaped mold like this one.
Why silicone? Well, not only does this particular material handle heat AND cold well, but once the shell hardens, the silicone will peel right off the chocolate without damaging the surface. Which makes for the most adorable bear!
Which chocolate is best to use for hot cocoa bombs?
Candy melts are delicious, convenient chocolate-y goodness! You can use them in a variety of recipes - or just melt and dip your favorite edible treats. I liked using candy melts for this recipe because they're pre-colored so I didn't have to deal with finnicky chocolate.
That being said, though, if you're making "normal" hot cocoa bombs, you can always buy a bar of any type (dark or milk) that will work well for melting purposes. Just chop up the pieces so they're easy to distribute across whatever pan/bowl you'll be using as this makes sure more heat is evenly distributed throughout the piece when heating on stovetop vs microwave method which usually only heats from within one spot at once due to its design.
Filling your cocoa bombs
Aside from using your regular hot cocoa mix, you can add tons of other ingredients inside your chocolate bombs! For this particular recipe, I chose to use some honey, churro marshmallow and sprinkles. It makes for an amazing exploding action.
Exploding the cocoa bombs
All it takes to get your cocoa bombs to explode is to pop them in a mug and pour your hot milk over them. Easy enough and then the chocolate will melt enough for the hot chocolate bombs to pop open and you're ready to stir!
