I love winter. I love the snow, I love the cold, I even enjoy bundling up to go outside in it. But most of all, my favorite thing about winter is hot cocoa season!
Now that we've had a few days of snow this year and a fresh blanket has covered our yard, it's time to break out the cocoa supplies and make some Snowflake Hot Cocoa Bombs for winter!
These are perfect for afternoons by the fire or when you just need something sweet on a chilly day. They also make great gifts too - give one as an edible stocking stuffer or tie them up with ribbons and attach a tag with instructions on how to heat them up.
Snowflake Hot Cocoa Bombs
How to make hot cocoa bombs
Typically, hot cocoa bombs are made from a silicone mold in the shape of spheres which is 2.5 inches wide to easily fit into mugs. But the thing is, these particular hot cocoa bombs are made with a silicone mold that's shaped like a snowflake. You can get the snowflake silicone mold here.
And knowing that, you can make hot cocoa bombs in basically any shape.
Which chocolate is best to use for hot cocoa bombs?
Candy melts are a great way to make the chocolate shells without the stress that regular chocolate can give you. You can use any type of chocolate candy melts: dark, milk or even white - they all melt in just about the same amount of time and will taste delicious!
Working with regular chocolate is fine, but when you try to add coloring or if you overheat it, you could be dealing with chunks. Additionally, the shells will be a little more fragile. So, stick with candy melts, if you can.
Filling your cocoa bombs
Aside from your typical hot cocoa mix, you can add almost anything else inside your cocoa bombs that you'd like. I like to go with mini marshmallows, peppermint pieces, and similar mini-things that will melt easily. Once you know what you're working with, then fill one side. Because these molds are a little larger than the typical, and have a flat side, you can just top them off flat with the edge and be done.
