Tips for Cutting Chipboard on the Cricut:
When it comes to cutting with your Cricut, there are certain tips and tricks to keep in mind when working with different materials. Below we will share with you what you need to know for cutting the chipboard that is used in this project. But just in case you aren’t familiar with chipboard, let’s start there.
What is Chipboard?
Chipboard is basically a really stiff, sturdy, and thick cardboard. I love using chipboards in projects where I want to create a depth and structure. Chipboard is super easy to decorate with paint, paper, and vinyl - it is an awesome crafting material!
How to Cut Chipboard on the Cricut:
For this project we used the knife blade so before you even begin you will want to make sure that your chipboard is no bigger than 2mm. Using a thicker chipboard may damage the knife blade.
You will also want to make sure that your design is at least ¼" away from the edge of the chipboard. If the blade crosses the edge of the chipboard you will also run into the risk of damaging your blade.
If you have a brayer, it is a good idea to lightly roll the brayer over the chipboard material (while it is on top of the strong grip mat) to create a firm bond between the material and your machine. We also suggest taping down the chipboard using painters tape.
Also, on the Cricut Maker™ Machine, make sure that you move the white star wheels all the way over to the right. If left in place, the star wheels may create an imprint on the chipboard.
You also want to make sure that none of your materials will go under the rubber rollers as this can cause the machine to error or jam.
And as always, make sure to run a test cut prior to running your main project so you know you are able to get a clean cut and do not need to sharpen or replace the blades.

How to Make a Tie-Dye Welcome Grapevine Wreath Cricut Craft
- Start by tie-dyeing your kitchen towel. Twist it up and wrap the rubber bands around the center of your bundle in 4-5 places then place it in the bowl.
- Either spray or pour (my preferred method, honestly) the dye onto your towel, saturating the towel in multiple places with purple or pink dye, respectively. Allow the tie-dyed towel to dry completely before messing with it again.
- While the towel is drying, go ahead and make your welcome element by downloading the SVG file. Immediately load the SVG file into Design Space, then insert the image for a new project.
- Click “Make It” in Design Space, and set the material type on the machine to “Chipboard”. Load the knife blade into your Cricut Maker, then follow prompts to load and cut. Be sure to use a strong grip mat for the chipboard and tape it down in each corner. Unload when finished cutting. Cut a second welcome shape before closing out of Design Space.
- Layer the two pieces of chipboard on top of each other and hot glue them in place.
- Once your tie-dyed towel is dry, iron it, if desired to set in the colors. Then cut the towel into 2-inch (approximately) wide strips.
- Take a single strip and fold it in half, then lay it flat on the table. Working from one end, roll the strip to make the rose. Make sure to make one end of the roll a little tighter than the other to make the rose full or make it looser in the center to make a bud. Repeat to make 5-10 roses of varying sizes.
- Hot glue each of the roses on the bottom of the wreath to one side.
- With the remaining strips of towel, tie them onto the bottom of the wreath, then cut them into ½-inch wide strips, if desired.
- Hot glue the welcome element to the front of the wreath, on each side of the wreath.
- Use one of the remaining strips of the towel to make a hanger loop on the top of the wreath and enjoy!
