Growing up, my family took one vacation a year. And it was the same place every single year-- Cape May, New Jersey. That's where my grandparents lived and every summer we would drive up and visit them. With Cape May as our home base, we took mini road trips to neighboring cities in Pennsylvania.
I saw a lot of Amish Country and the Liberty Bell.
As I look back --somewhat fondly-- on those times, I still wish my parents would have vacationed somewhere a little more exciting. Off all the years of driving to New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we never even made it to New York City!
Now that I have a family of my own, I realize the importance of traveling together and seeing new places. Family vacations are very important to my family, and I vow to always make it different and exciting.
