While summer break is winding down, there’s still time for a last minute road trip before Labor Day–the official end of summer. But before you get on the highway for that final getaway, the NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) wants to make sure you’re aware of what your auto insurance covers if you happen to have trouble on the road.
According to an April 2011 NAIC survey, 40 percent of Americans incorrectly believe their car insurance will cover the replacement of personal items stolen from their vehicle and one-third of Americans believe their auto insurance automatically covers a rental car.
To help overcome these misconceptions, the NAIC has five tips for a stress-free road trip:
1. Confirm your car insurance is active and premiums are up-to-date. Have a current copy of your insurance card in the car.
2. Check to see if your policy includes roadside assistance. You can be covered for towing, fuel delivery, lockout service, jump-starts and more.
3. If renting a car, check if your current policy includes coverage, and verify limitations with your agent. Some credit cards offer rental coverage, so check with your credit card company to determine if that is an option.
4. If rental car coverage is not included in your policy, consider adding an insurance rider for a small fee or purchasing coverage from the rental car company. Make sure you don’t duplicate benefits from your existing auto, health or home insurance policy.
5. Verify your homeowners or renters insurance covers the theft of personal items from a car, especially if you are planning to carry expensive items in your car such as golf clubs, video or digital cameras or laptops.

Having traveled all over the South for baby showers and weddings, I have learned the keys to success! Pack a cooler of good and healthy snacks purchased from Kroger to acquire Kroger gas points then fill up at Kroger! Pack the dvd’s for the kids and a good read while the hubbie drives on!
My best tip is to always bring an emergency roadside kit with because you never know what will happen!
when traveling with kids investin a portable dvd player and lots of dvds!!!

Decide ahead of time on a playlist of music. You could either make a mix CD so everyone is happy or you can make individual CD’s and allot so much time for each person to listen to their music.

A tip that save my sanity especially when traveling with my younger siblings is playing “Road side ABC’s” its where you have to find letters only on road signs, no liscense plates and start at A and go all the way to Z, and 2 people cant call the same letter! Its very fun and for the little ones that are learning their abc’s they focus extremely hard on the road looking for signs! It quiets them down for awhile, especially if there is a small prize offered to who wins, like picking a treat at the next gas station, the next movie watched, or gettin to ride shotgun next

My favorite trip was a trip to chicago with my family to see a chicago cubs game. I have been a long time fan. We all chipped in for gas so that kept the price low and we changed drivers every couple hundred miles. It made for a nice little getaway. Go Cubbies!

Always bring plenty of food & drink so you won’t have to stop and pay high prices. Stop at picnic areas instead.
