May 3rd is the official kick-off to the summer movie season and leading the charge is Iron Man 3.
Robert Downey Jr. returns as billionaire playboy Tony Stark. You may remember Downey Jr. was also a member of last summer’s mega blockbuster The Avengers, which is arguably the best comic book to film adaptation EVER!! The Avengers is a tough act to follow, but judging from some new clips, Iron Man is ready to kick some serious butt!
Iron Man 3 has a little darker and grittier tone, taking the character of Tony Stark into some new territory,which is a carry over from some of the growing up he did in The Avengers. Director Shane Black is a brilliant writer and has worked with Robert Downey Jr. before (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang). This is the same Shane Black who practically reinvented the action genre in the mid 80’s, penning such movies as Lethal Weapon 1 & 2 and The Last Boy Scout. Marvel has done a good job choosing the right directors for their films as of late, I don’t see this being a poor choice at all.
