Photography is a part of my everyday life, and not just because I'm a blogger. I LOVE to take pictures -- whether it be of my husband and our adorable daughter (of course, I'm biased!), landscapes from one of my many travels, or just random objects that inspire me.
The one major drawback of the DSLR camera that I own is that it is a pain to lug around. More often than not, I leave the thing at home when I’m on the go because I don’t want to deal with it – which kind of defeats the purpose! For a while now I have been considering a point and shoot camera that I can easily grab when needed and won’t get in the way (or weigh me down) when I travel. So, of course, I was ecstatic when I got the opportunity purchase the Samsung WB200 Smart Camera at Walmart as part of a campaign with Social Fabric.
Once we confirmed that the Samsung WB200 was in stock, my daughter and I went straight out to our local Walmart Supercenter to buy it. We’re going on vacation next week to New Orleans, so the new camera couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Spotting the camera in the photo department at Walmart was easy because it’s white – it didn't take me long to fall in love with the look or design …
And a BONUS! The Samsung WB200 is currently on sale for $179.00 from $199.00! We used the extra discount to purchase a new memory card. Note: The Samsung WB200F is the same camera model as the WB200 – Samsung recently dropped the “F” 😉
{Check out my Google+ Album for our full shopping trip to Walmart}
So what makes the Samsung WB200 a smart camera? Get ready for this – it has Wi-Fi connectivity! This enables you to sync your camera to both your smartphone and PC, allowing you to instantly share photos or video online. Plus, it wirelessly transfers your files to your computer so you never have to take out your memory card!!
The Samsung WB200 also features:
- 14.2 megapixel resolution with high-quality still images and video recordings
- Samsung 4.0-72.0mm zoom lens with 18x optical zoom
- 720p HD Movie Recording and SMART Camera 2.0 functionality
- 3.0" TFT LCD screen with image editing features
- Hybrid Touch Screen
- Built-in flash with Red-Eye Reduction, Fill-In Flash and Slow-Sync Flash
As soon as I got home I took my new camera out of the box and synced it with my computer (very easy to do!). Then, I went around the house and took a ton of photos. I was hoping to get some cool outside shots, but it has been so gloomy lately that there wasn't a lot to work with. Because pictures are better than words, here are some of the first shots that I took with the Samsung WB200—
My favorite features are the 14.2 resolution and the 18x optical zoom, which are both much higher than my DSLR. These allow me to get great quality pictures of my family without expensive lenses. The high resolution is also great for editing. Here’s an example of a photo taken with the Samsung WB200; the top is the original and the bottom has been enhanced to show detail. Oh, and you can edit photos right on that camera, too!
I also love the touchscreen which makes sharing photos/videos on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube super easy. The Samsung WB200 is great for digital moms, like me, who are constantly taking and sharing photos online with friends and family. The WiFi Direct Link Button is a total time-saver as it eliminates the need to transfer photos to your computer before uploading them to social accounts. This will also come in handy when I’m traveling as you can connect to any open Wi-Fi network!!
I’m super excited about my new Samsung Camera and I can’t wait to use it on our vacation next week. All of the features are easy to use and it fits perfectly into my family’s lifestyle.
You can keep up-to-date with Samsung by following them on Facebook and Twitter. The Samsung WB200 Smart Camera is currently available in stores and online at Walmart.

I could use something more compact like this. I loathe dragging my DSLR around and smartphone shots don't always cut it.
