Last month, I shared a little about my family's travels growing up as part of a Then & Now campaign with Alamo. Over the holidays, we would drive up north to my Nanny and PopPop's house for Christmas. While I have great memories of this time, the travel never changed. It was always a long drive (18 hours each way), without much entertainment for me.
Now that I have a daughter of my own, I really make an effort to make travel fun ... especially over the holidays! There are so many cool things to see and do in this country that I would hate to waste every year doing the same thing. While I visited grandparents growing up, I prefer to take my mother along for the ride when we travel now, instead of just visiting her at her home. This way we can spend time together and see new things. It's a win-win! Most recently we took a road trip together (my family & my mother) to Charleston, SC. It was the first time any of us had been there, and we had a great time!
The road trip was still long, but the time flew by a lot faster with the help of technology. My daughter can spend hours upon hours playing Minecraft on her iPod, and I can get work done (aka waste time on Facebook) on my laptop while my husband drives. We actually enjoy being together and my daughter is creating special memories with her grandmother while seeing different parts of the country. I hope these trips inspire my daughter to love travel as much as I do.
For me, family travel is a lot different today because it's more enjoyable for everyone.
