This year I made a commitment to my daughter (and myself) that I would pack her lunch every day. Last year, this was not the case and she ended up buying lunch more times than I care to admit. Not only is this expensive, but unhealthy, as our school lunches consist of chicken nuggets and pizza ... every single day.
Santa Cruz is one of our favorite brands of organic peanut butter. Nothing goes better with peanut butter than jelly, and now, Santa Cruz has a new line of Organic Fruit Spreads that make the perfect PB&J sandwich.
The new flavors are Strawberry, Apricot, Seedless Red Raspberry and Blackberry Pomegranate. Fruit is the #1 ingredient (as it should be) in each of the spreads. We found them to have a silky smooth consistency which spreads easily over peanut butter— I hate clumpy jelly!
There are also 2 new flavors of Santa Cruz Organic Fruit Sauces: Apple Peach and Apple Tropical. We were already fans of Santa Cruz Apple Sauce, so the new Organic Fruit Sauces were a nice change of pace for my daughter's lunch. The apple tropical is my personal favorite. I think it's a great flavor, and a makes a great treat for adults, too.
All of Santa Cruz Organic’s products are certified organic, do not contain high fructose corn syrup, artificial ingredients or preservatives and are manufactured entirely with renewable energy from a variety of sources, including on-site solar energy and renewable energy certificate purchases.
These are products you can feel good about giving to your family.
What's in my daughter's lunch box this year?
- PB&J with Santa Cruz Organic Dark Roasted Creamy Peanut Butter & Strawberry Fruit Spread
- Santa Cruz Organic Tropical Fruit Sauce
- Sliced grapes
- Yogurt
- Organic fruit juice
So much better than school cafeteria lunches!

My son is a preschooler so I won't be packing a lunch for him this year, but we do eat a healthy lunch as soon as he gets off the bus. He used to be really hyper and out of control and I read an article about kids like him and how food can really be a culprit. I also read how Red Dye #40 and Yellow Dye #6 were not allowed in food in Germany because of its adverse reactions to some children.
I decided to try to get those dyes out of his system. That was no easy task. You will not believe how much stuff has it in it! Even the Yogurt mentioned in your post. Some yogurts do not have it but they are very few. But now that he is free of the dye I can tell. He is much easier to get along with. I can tell if we missed something he ate or drank and it had some dye in it. He is a different kid on the junk.
I get the Yoplait GoGurts and the Dannon yogurt that is free of artificial flavors and colors. I buy the organic red licorice because it is dyed with natural colors like in beets.
It is frustrating because SO MANY things have that stupid dye in it. My preschooler says now, "Mom can we get this ice cream if it does not have red dye in it." That some times breaks my heart!

I pack a PB and J sandwich, either an apple (peeled), an orange (peeled ) or a banana, some Pringles, and a water bottle. On Friday, I enclose a mini candy bar also.

Great idea! In that case, you need to consider also the lunch pack container you're going to use. Choose a safer, eco-friendly, and easy to use food stacking container. I know a site you can count on when it comes to this matter. Happy Tiffin offers high quality stainless steel container that will suit best your personality style. You'll love it for sure. Be hip and stylish!
