With the first day of Summer just around the corner, June 21st 2009 (Father's Day), I thought it would be fun to take a family trip to the beach.
I am boycotting our community pool and since it has been in the 90's this past week, it seemed like the perfect time to go.
We are within a 30 minute drive to the #2 of the 10 Best Beaches for 2009, Siesta Key.
Siesta Key is know for its super white sand and clear water. Unfortunately, my daughter wanted nothing to do with Siesta Key on this day and insisted we go to Turtle Beach. I am assuming she just likes it because the name is "turtle" beach and she probably thinks there are going to be turtles there or something. For the record, no turtles.
There are 2 good things about Turtle Beach. #1 is that it is very quiet and there are not many people around.
#2 is that there are lots of shells, so this makes looking for them a fun activity.
We spent about 2 hours at the beach (I honestly can't handle anymore than that) and spent a good majority of that time looking for shells and playing in the water.
I seriously forgot how much fun the beach was and it was an inexpensive day too. Turtle Beach has free parking, and then on the way home we picked up some Subway. By the way, why are the turkey subs $1 more than any of the others?
Next time I want to hit Siesta Key and then also Anna Maria Island, which I haven't been to. I think I will try to visit all the surrounding beaches this summer and make my own top 10 list.
