This post is brought to you by the makers of Fresh Step® Litter and Burst Media. All opinions are my own.
When we only had one cat, I didn't pay much attention to the brand of litter I purchased. Our little Coco was only a kitten and she didn't make much of a mess. However, as soon as Rocky arrived everything changed.
Two litter boxes wasn't enough, so we went to three (the suggested amount for multiple cats is one box per cat plus an additional box), but even then I began to notice that our litter wasn't holding up and I was scooping more of it out of the box each time. This was in addition to the smell. I felt like it didn't matter how often I cleaned the boxes because I couldn't get rid of the yucky cat odor — cat owners KNOW what I'm talking about. It was clear the value brand wasn't cutting it and I needed something new.
My search for a better cat litter led me to Fresh Step. I noticed right away that when cleaned regularly, our cat litter boxes were no longer stinky. It's funny to say this, but the boxes even smelled fresh when the cats were inside doing their business!
The difference between Fresh Step Triple Action and other brands is Plant Power. Plant extracts form an air-neutralizing force field around the litter box, blocking odors from escaping—ultimately converting bad smells into fresh scents. Fresh Step Triple Action uses both activated carbon and plant extracts to eliminate odors from urine, feces, and bacteria.
Cat Litter Sniff Test
To prove how well Fresh Step Triple Action works to neutralize odor, I received three small containers of litter (Fresh Step and two other brands) to perform my own sniff test. My task was to sniff each container (a mix of litter and garlic oil), without looking at the brand, and determine which eliminated odor the best.
As soon as the test arrived, I couldn't wait to give it a go. No one was home to catch my reaction, but I can tell you two out of the three containers smelled AWFUL— garlic oil is positively pungent! The choice for me was obvious, but I had to get my husband's reaction and pick for the best brand of odor-neutralizing cat litter.
Both my husband and I chose container "B" - Fresh Step Triple Action. Containers "A" and "C" did almost nothing to neutralize the odor of the garlic oil. Fresh Step, however, was completely free of the stench of garlic.
I knew from using Fresh Step previously that is was the best litter brand for my cats, and the sniff test confirmed my decision. I would rather spend a few dollars more for a premium brand of cat litter that truly eliminates odors versus a value brand that costs me more in the long run. I'm happy when my cats use Fresh Step and I think they're happier, too.

For most of my older kitties, food, a warm spot to sleep and a scratch on the head a few times a day will do it. The younger ones require more toys and distractions.

OMG! What makes my kitters happy - it changes from day to day! Sometimes they seem pleased when I coo all over them - then hours later, if they catch me observing them they abruptly stop what they're doing and stalk off! But generally, they do love just hanging out with the family, b/c wherever we hang out, they tend to congregate as well.
