This time of year is rich with family traditions including decorating for the Holidays, baking delicious treats, and spending time with family. A favorite way of mine to get into the Holiday spirit is by listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies. I love to set out cookies and milk or perhaps some hot cocoa and grab some cozy blankets. Then it's time to snuggle in with my family while we watch movies such as It's A Wonderful Life, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is celebrating it's 50th anniversary!
The heartwarming story of Rudolph first ran on December 6th, 1964 on television sets across the country. It has since become the longest running and highest-rated Holiday special in TV history. This news doesn't surprise me as the message behind Rudolph - with his nose so bright - is endearing and has a message that rings true generation after generation.
The message of love, compassion, and celebrating our differences is at the core of the story. While watching this animated classic, PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center would like to encourage parents to have a heart-to-heart with their children on how to embrace the differences in all of us and how they make us ShineBright. Bullying is a very real, incredibly scary occurrence and it's up to us to talk to our children, teaching them awareness, empathy, and kindness.
Available on eBook - "The Legend of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is a fantastic tie-in to the classic television special. With each purchase of the eBook, one dollar will be donated to PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. For more information, including an online discussion board and an activity guide, visit PACER.org/ShineBright.
Make sure to mark your calendar or set your DVR as CBS will telecast the 50th anniversary special on Tuesday, December 9th at 8pm ET/PT.
