I was invited by Clorox to host a Clean up the Classroom in my daughters Pre-K class this morning.
Clorox gave the school a bunch of cleaning supplies, and they gave me some materials to share with the kids on why being "clean" is a great idea.
Since this is a Pre-K class, I talked about the very basics of being cleanly, washing their hands, and germs.
Even at such a young age they totally "got" the concept of germs being bad and that they can make you sick. They knew why its good to wash your hands before and after you eat, use the restroom, and play outside.
We used the poster that Clorox provided to place the germs where we thought they would be in the classroom. The kids did a great job, and I was even surprised that one little girl posted her sticker on the doorknob...which is one of the top places germs like to hide.
After we did a fun experiment with vegetable oil and cinnamon to see the importance of washing our hands with soap and water.
This is with just oil and cinnamon on the hands. The cinnamon represents the germs.
This is after you wash your hands with JUST water, the germs are still there.
And after you wash your hands with soap and water, the germs disappear. 🙂
This was a great visual for the children and they each wanted to participate in the experiment.

This is a good idea seeing how loaded schools are with germs!
