I am so excited to announce that I will be blogging live from Mardi Gras in New Orleans from February 13th-16th, 2010!
What make this so unique is that I will be chronicling my experience on www.MyMardiGrasExperience.com from a family perspective. While Mardi Gras is mostly associated with drunken college students and other debauchery, there is a family side that is rarely seen.
My husband and 5 year old daughter will be joining me as we hit the parades, enjoy the local cuisine and experience some of the other traditions of Mardi Gras.
While my husband experienced Mardi Gras in college, I have not. This will be the first visit to New Orleans for both my daughter and I. I also think it will make a unique experience for my husband, who can compare his previous visit to now, coming back as a Dad. Do I see a guest post coming from Daddy Musings? 🙂
Even though we don't arrive until the 13th, there is a host of other bloggers sharing their experiences now at My Mardi Gras Experience. You can also find us on twitter @MyMardiGras.

Not sure I envy you the craziness that Mardi Gras ensures but hope you have fun!

I am from New Orleans. New Orleans is a great city, and Mardi Gras can be a great family event if you know where to go and what to do. For a great family experience during Mardi Gras, avoid the crazy tourist parts of town and see the parades where the local families see them from. This means standing on the neutral ground and watching the floats from the Garden District or Uptown. These parts of town are where mainly locals hang out, and there can be a real family atmosphere. The French Quarter can be fun for kids too because parades like Barkus (the Dog Parade, happened last weekend thogu), but in general I would avoid bringing kids to the French Quarter at night. In general, you should have a great time.
Just my two cents.

We can't wait to see you... I have a place for your daughter in the ladder right next to my son. We'll see which one catches more beads!
See you this weekend.
