I really have it out for Max & Ruby, a children's TV show on Nick Jr. and Noggin.
Everything about that show makes me crazy. I would ban it from my television is my daughter didn't like it so much. I suppose there are much worse shows she could be watching, but whatever.
The show consists of 2 main characters (Max & Ruby), with an occasional appearance by Louise, Ruby's best friend.
This leads to a very valid question...
Where are Max & Ruby's parents???
Ruby, the older sister of Max, is a bossy, controlling and whiny little bunny. She is apparently the primary caregiver to Max since the parents are yet to be seen. All this at age 7.
How many times in one episode can we hear the phrase "No Max!"? -Really this could turn into a drinking game for adults.
She is constantly belittling Max, and ruining all his fun. Typical of a big sister, I suppose.
Max is not without his own little annoyances, mainly because he can only speak in one word answers. And its not just a one word answer just once, its over and over and over again...
Seriously it has to stop, now my daughter will pull a Max when she wants something! Maybe I do need to ban this show after all.
Max & Ruby has no educational value, and if anything, teaches bad habits to children. The plots are beyond pointless and dull. Why Nick Jr. hasn't pulled this show I don't know. Consider yourself lucky if your child has never seen it.
Oh, and let's not even get started on the theme song.

I feel your pain, Max & Ruby annoy me every evening just before dinner. Tonight, Saturday, my son asked for more Max. This is the first I have heard of him actually liking the show. Hope I'm not destined for hours of endless non-entertainment.

I can do you one better. Ever seen Caliou? This has got to be the worst show for kid. This child is whines so much and his parents give him his way. What a horrible example. We banned it from our home. Both t.v. and books.

Actually No Nanette, I have never seen Caliou. But now I know to stay far away from it if it is as bad a M&R.

How a group of intelligent adults could collaborate to make a show like Max & Ruby is beyond me. I couldn't care less about Ruby's bossiness as it pales in comparison to that little demon Max. The show basically demonstrates to children that if you act like a little brat and steadfastly refuse to use your words for long enough, you will get whatever you want.

aca-sa-scuse me, he is a great role model for my children teaching me more than R&M ever did, sorry hunty get destroyed

My 3 year-old doesn't even pay attention to this crap when it's on anymore. I wonder that about the parents, too. They have a grandmother who makes special guest appearances.

Rosemary Wells (M&R book author) claims the parents aren't around so it can be demonstrated that siblings resolve conflict differently when they're alone. Fine. But it still sets a bad example when a seven-year-old uses the kitchen stove, lugs her little brother all over town, and sends him ON HIS OWN to the grocery store. Even if their entire community is kind and seemingly free of criminal types.

I totally agree. I HATE it when my 2 year old watches it. I am so happy that I am not the only one who has noticed that Max and ruby have no parents. I feel that this show sets a very bad example for children. Ruby is very bossy, but I feel that Max is the most annoying character. Sometimes Ruby does have good points, but Max does what he wants regardless, and no matter what, he always ends up being the clever one. I think this show teaches young children that you don't have to listen to authority. Max never gets reprimanded for his actions, and I can see human children following his example- NOT COOL. I have to admit, my two year old loves it though, so I guess the ratings keep the show going.

The only thing this Show Tells You is How To Deny And misbehave. My Child Loves This Show but I hate it. I think us parents Should Ban this show.

I don't even know how I came across this page. Wow! Who knew 2 bunnies could anger so many people. I'm surprised you let your children watch t.v.
mother

I HATE this show. My 2 year old daughter is no longer allowed to watch it. After the "bad egg" episode she started throwing food at dinner yelling bad egg because she did not like dinner that night . I wish they would just pull it. If there was something I could do to make it go faster I would.

Wow you parents are complaining about a petty show. Maybe you should go back to school with all the poor grammar skills going on.

Isn't there any website that you can destroy these characters for fun? That would bring a little satisfaction into the picture!!

I'm encouraged to see fathers not only taking an interest in what their children are watching, but writing about it so eloquently here. I had never heard of Max and Ruby two days ago. My 3-year-old has been watching a disk my wife bought and it took only a few seconds for me to conclude that this show could be an Al Qaeda campaign to spell the demise of western civilization, one child at a time. Four or five things drive viewers towards mental retardation and/or moral depravity: the theme song, Max' one word dialogue, Ruby's terrible voice and acting, their parents' absence, the lack of any kind of moral to each vignette, and the jazz music in the background that I find out of place and depressing. Fingernails on a blackboard...fork tines on a plate...these are sheer listening pleasure compared to a Max and Ruby soundtrack! All this from 5 minutes or so of being subjected to this poor excuse from a show...and I do have a job! I hope housewives across the country make a stink to the network and make them replace the show with something more educationally worthy. I think a test pattern would fill that bill.

Seriously...my kids adore Max & Ruby & I have no problem letting them watch it because it has no violence. My kids & I have wondered about the parents, but no other questions were asked. I grew up in the generation of Tom & Jerry- very violent, Scooby Doo- no explaination needed, & let's not forget Smurfs! Thousand of blue men, one woman, no parents & a mean man & his cat, & they're only mission was to destroy them!!!! We need a reality check- obviously if they pick up bad habits- you stop it. I dislike Yo Gaba Gaba & Cailou MORE
Mommy Hates Max
I'm with you, Lindsay - I did ban Max and Ruby! After watching a few DVR episodes for less than two weeks, my full-sentence-speaking three year-old starting "Max-ing" into one word communication that he had NEVER used before. I erased all the episodes and announced that there was no more Max and Ruby "on the TV" because I was sick of it and it was bad for him because he was too old to talk like Max. Every once in a while he asks "Are you still sick of Max and Ruby?" And he knows the answer always is "Yes, sweetie."

Max and Ruby is fine, its a cute show that is pleasant and shows positive interaction. Ruby and her friends are portrayed as well rounded girls. They are good examples for Max and the adults in the show are a bit old fashioned and traditional, we need more of that on TV these days. Most kids shows of this kind don't have parents as characters and I think its fine, kids want to watch other kids not adults. There are few good shows on TV for anyone!! this one is on the good list!

I don't let my now 4 year old watch this show anymore. He began to mimic the nonsense max would do, and like someone else posted, it had to do with the 'bad egg' episode.
samantha
yes max and ruby have no parents and yes the show is really annoyin but most kid shows are now a days.. but its not on for the parents to watch its for the kids.. ya i hate the show its annoyin but i still let me 3yr old daughter watch it bc she loves it and i know it wont be a forever kind of thing and she hasnt picked up no bad habits from it.
Bentleys Mommy
My son who just turned one yesterday loves the show. I hate it. Always have since I was younger. (Im 15) but it keeps him happy and he seems to like screaming at ruby when she doesn't let max play. She's so bossy, and she treats him as if he's mentally retarted. Why talk so slow. I mean he can understand you. I believe they should take max & ruby off air and bring back blues clues. Trust me it will teach children more and blue isn't annoying, she teaches good lessons.

Id be more worried about Cailou (sp) The only thing that annoyed me about "Bad Egg" episode was that it was promoting the fact that eggs were a health food while the fresh berries were the "dessert", and Max wasnt allowed to eat the berries until he ate the cholesterol filled heart attack inducing egg first. The episode kept pushing the eggs health benefits and suggesting they be eaten everyday? I think we all know the obvious health concerns on that dilemma. No doubt this episode was funded by the American Dairy Association.

How something so sweet, so educational, and so creative can annoy so many people to such an extent that it warrants taking time out to vent about it online is just pitiful (to say the least). What would be more your style (for your kids of course)--The Simpsons perhaps? Olivia? Spongebob? (i.e. cartoons that mock parental figures and are disrespectful to others?) It's no wonder we have so many children, teens (and adults) that are out of control and such a serious threat to society. Why don't you try searching within yourselves so you can address your own issues (because you obviously have some serious issues going on), and spend less time criticizing something so sweet, pure, and innocent like this award-winning TV show. God's peace.

One more thing...It's funny how some of you think she's bossy...
Have you guys forgotten that Max can barely speak (a 1 or 2 year old child can relate to him) and Ruby is the "big sister" who's obviously taken on a parental role since there's no mother or father living with them? And she's does a very good job in my book. She's so patient with him, never raising her voice or disrespecting him, telling him why she wants him to do this or that, so he can understand better. How many parents can honestly say they do that?
It's so sad to see how soo many of you simply don't understand (or don't want to understand) this incredibly creative and positive TV show. How you can distort something so sweet and so beautiful and turn it into something else is beyond me. You have very dark filters over your eyes. Try peeling them off and smelling the roses once in awhile. The world would be a much better place.

I HATE this show.
When my oldest was 2 another mom was telling me how much she couldn't stand this show- and that she thought Max was rude. Since my DD only watched Sesame Street at the time, I couldn't understand how a kids show could be as awful as she made it seem.
Until my kid started to watch it.
Max's inability to string to words together or Ruby's non stop hen pecking isn't the deal killer for me. It's that every episode revolves around Max not doing what he is told to do or what he should do but it all works out for him in the end.
Going to buy overalls? But you want a dragon shirt...just try on the shirt and get it dirty so you are forced to buy them. I could go on...but I know most of you except for 'anonymous' understand.

My girls absolutely LOVE Max & Ruby! Although the parents are not involved this is a fun loving cartoon (w/out violence - destroying toys or killing people). You can not find much like this on tv anymore. Its a fun cartoon, however, me and MIL think its boring but the girls love it and that's what counts. Parents chill if you dont like it.. don't allow your kids to watch.. Period. Just saying 🙂
BTW- we are having a M&R party for my 5 year old, just wish their was more toys and party supplies to offer. 🙂

I know my comment is late, but for everyone stating that max is a 1 or 2 year old is completely wrong. He is actually supposedly 4 yrs old. It makes absolutelt no sense as to why, as a 4 yr old, he still only speaks in one word sentences. Ruby is bossy, overprotective, and always wants Max to do things HER way (usually something girly like painting rainbows), never allowing him the chance to express himself. I appreciate how non violent this show is but i cannot get over Max's blatant disregard for rules/authority and Rubys constant nagging and whining! My daughter watches this show everyday, which i have no problem with, but i also have to let her know the rights and wrongs of each episode. It really should just be pulled completely from the air.
Olivia
I love this show! It is so fun to watch!!!!!! 🙂 Olivia 10 years old
