This post is brought to you by Haribo. All opinions are my own.
Gummi Bears are where its at when it comes to chewy candy! Both my daughter and I love snacking on gummi candy when we're watching movies or just as a fun treat when we're craving something sweet. Haribo is our gummi candy of choice because it's the original! If you love gummies as much as we do, take a peek at these fun gummi bear facts:
- Based in Germany, the Haribo name is an acronym for the company’s founder – Hans Riegel – and its headquarters in Bonn.
- Haribo was founded in 1920, and is now the world’s largest gummi, licorice and marshmallow candy manufacturer.
- Hans invented the DANCING BEAR - a bear-shaped figure made from gummi which would later be world famous as the legendary HARIBO GOLD-BEAR.
- This DANCING BEAR was inspired by the trained bears that were a fixed part of the festivities at annual markets and other celebrations well into the 19th century in Germany.
- The DANCING BEARS made from gummi were larger than the GOLD-BEARS are today, but slimmer.
- In 1967, the GOLD-BEARS were officially recognized by the German Patent Office as a registered trademark.
- For the 85th birthday of the GOLD-BEARS in Germany, the GOLD-BEARS got a new recipe, a new bag design, and a smiling face. A sixth flavor "Apple" was also added in Germany.
- In November 2014, Haribo released a NEW gummi candy -- Haribo Sour Gold- Bears!
Haribo Sour Gold-Bears will hit U.S. shelves in 5-ounce bags this month at a suggested retail price of $1.09 - $1.69. Nationwide rollout expected in late Q4 2014.
Sour gummies are one of the most popular candies in America. Haribo has perfected the combination of sweet and sour by taking the flavors from the ever-popular original Gold-Bears, including Pineapple (clear), Strawberry (green), Lemon (yellow), Orange (orange) and Raspberry (red); and making them sour.
The new Sour Gold-Bears taste fresh, fruity and uniquely sour – but not too sour.
“As the gold standard in gummies, our Gold-Bears will never go out of style,” said Haribo of America CEO Sal Ferrara. “Our fans have asked us for this product for a long time, and we’re thrilled to finally launch our next iteration of gummi bear perfection in Sour Gold-Bears!”
Other sour gummi candy in Haribo’s lineup also will include, Sour S’ghetti and The Smurfs Sour.
