This post is brought to you by Hillshire Farm Naturals. All opinions are my own.
I know I've mentioned before that I'm doing everything I can to make sure my daughter brings a nutritious lunch to school every day. Earlier in the year, I got tired of paying for the school lunch without knowing exactly what was in it. I've come to realize that I can make her lunches at home for nearly the same cost of what they're charging at school, and every single day I know the quality of the meat, fruits and veggies that she's eating.
One of the changes I made this year was purchasing meat products that contained no artificial ingredients or nitrates. Until recently, it seemed the only place to purchase meats without all the extra ingredients was from the deli counter. But just this week I found a new line of products from Hillshire Farms at my local Walmart.
Hillshire Farm Naturals™ is a premium line of lunchmeat that contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives or colors and no added nitrites/nitrates except those occurring naturally in celery juice. The lunchmeats are crafted to be both 100% natural and 100% delicious.
The line features four varieties including: Slow Roasted Turkey Breast, Hardwood Smoked Turkey Breast, Honey Roasted Ham, and Black Forest Ham.
Recently, I picked up a package of Hillshire Farm Naturals™ Slow Roasted Turkey Breast while shopping at Walmart. Turkey breast is my daughter's favorite lunchmeat, and I was excited to try it because Hillshire Farms Naturals uses only select cuts of meat slow roasted in their own juices (sounds delish, right?). In the future I plan to try the Black Forest Ham, but I wanted to start with what my daughter prefers.1
When we arrived back home, I promptly made my daughter a turkey and cheese sandwich and asked her to give me her thoughts.
My daughter is a sandwich purist and enjoys just turkey breast and provolone cheese on bread. I always throw a bit of greens in there, but she usually takes them off!
After gobbling her sandwich up, she told me she enjoyed it just as much as the other, more expensive, brand of turkey breast that I had been buying. I tried a few slices for myself and was really impressed. It's very rare that I buy lunchmeat in a package, but Hillshire Farm Naturals wasn't like any other pre-packaged meat that I have tried. Even in a package, the turkey breast tasted fresh— perhaps it's because each product is double-sealed in a re-sealable tub, which locks in freshness and great taste.
I didn't need to use it, but Hillshire Farm will provide a 100% refund for every package of meat that a consumer is not satisfied with — it's refreshing to know when a company stands behind their product!
I have a feeling I will be picking up additional varieties of Hillshire Farm Naturals™ the next time I'm grocery shopping. At around $4 a package, it's a great value for lunchmeat without all the gross artificial ingredients and preservatives.
You can purchase Naturals™ lunchmeat at any Wal-Mart or find a local store using theHillshire product locator(Naturals™ are found under thin-sliced lunchmeat).
