This post is brought to you by UviCube. All opinions are my own.
Every once in awhile I come across a product where I stop and think, "Man, I wish I thought of that!" My most recent exclamation was for the kickstarter campaign for UviCube. What's a UviCube? Only the coolest new tech product for parents of babies and toddlers (though I can think of a million other uses for adults as well!).
The UviCube uses ultraviolet (UV) light to dry, disinfect and store baby bottles until they're ready to use. Or at least that was the original intention for product. Now before I get into some of the other uses, UviCube would be a fantastic invention if all it did was sanitize and store baby bottles. I remember the days of boiling big pots of water to make sure bottles were clean and germ-free for my daughter. The process was time consuming -- I always felt like I never had any bottles ready when I really needed them, which led to cutting corners ... and don't say you haven't been there!
With how quickly germs, like cold & flu, spread these days, it's reasonable for parents to want to take extra care when it comes to sanitizing their baby's bottles and small toys. According to the National Institutes of Health (Source: April 2006 Public Health Report PMC.), "Neonates and young infants are more vulnerable to infectious agents than older children and adults." - I know if UviCube had been around when my daughter was an infant, I would have been one of the first on-board try it out.
Now let's talk about some of the other uses for UviCube. Obviously any type of small toy that could fit in a baby's mouth (pacifiers, sippy cups & utensils, too) would fit in the UviCube. But then there's also electronics like remote controls, tablets and CELL PHONES (possibly the dirtiest device out there!) and personal items including keys, jewelry, watches and pens. Just load up whatever you need sanitized, press start, and UviCube will have your items germ-free in just 10-minutes. Baby bottles that are washed and then dried/sanitized in the UviCube take 45 minutes.
If all this wasn't enough, the UviCube is designed to look appealing anywhere you place it in your home -- it's actually an interesting conversation piece! About the size of a small microwave or toaster oven, the appliance can hold 4-6 bottles and their accessories, depending on their size. An iPad Mini fits perfectly on the tray, and has plenty of room to hold a mobile phone, a remote control, a watch or other small personal items in one cycle.
UviCube has been found to eliminate 99.9% of harmful bacteria, including Salmonella Enterica, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli. The product has also been safety tested and is built to follow and pass the appropriate safety standards set by a nationally recognized testing laboratory approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a U.S. federal agency.
The kickstarter campaign for UviCube has already reached $27,155 in the first week! Clearly parents want this product, and you can have one too if you get on board by being one of the first 100 backers to pledge $199 or more to UviCube. Plus you'll get to select your choice of color, "UviCube Blue" or "Rocket Gray". Which woukld you choose!?
If you don't need a UviCube and just want to support the concept, there's additional pledge options for as low as $1 -- remember every little bit helps!
