This post is brought to you by Dreamgate Studios. All opinions are my own.
I don't know about you, but I love, love, love to play challenging puzzle games on my phone. Once I get into a game, it can be hard to pull away— which was exactly the case this past week with Light in the Dark, the newest family-friendly puzzle app from Dreamgate Studios. Thankfully, I had a lot of time on my hands with multiple flights and layovers as I traveled back and forth across the country.
Here's a little preview to get a feel for Light in the Dark before I share more of my thoughts.
Looks super fun, right!? -- Well, it is! I've had ample time to play the game and the theme and characters are definitely engaging.
The game begins with the discovery that the cute babies of Totems, a colorful undiscovered species, have lost their way in an ancient labyrinth tomb. The goal is to help the children reunite with their parents. To do this, players must solve perplexing puzzles and avoid dangerous, but equally adorable, enemies including mummies and sandmen. Some levels challenge with a countdown clock and others have movable objects that must be arranged correctly.
Light in the Dark is a touchscreen game where you swipe your finger across the screen to move mirrors, which bend light. Baby Totems are only reunited with their parents when basking in the glow of their own preferred hue. To create colors which are different from those emitted by adult Totems, players blend the light of the parents with each other.
It took me a second to get the hang of the task at hand, but once I did the game got addicting. Light in the Dark is unlike any other puzzle game that I have played, which made all the levels brand new. There are currently 120 challenging puzzles with many more on the way! It will take me awhile to get through the levels, but it's always nice to know that the game is expanding. The only in-app purchases are for hints; 3 Hints$0.99 and 10 Hints$2.99.
I let me daughter play Light in the Dark on my phone and she was equally engaged. I know she loved the treasure hunt/ancient tombs theme that's present throughout. She was able to get through the first few levels pretty easily and then felt it to be challenging...but not too challenging where she couldn't beat the level. Light in the Dark is a family-friendly game so the puzzles can be worked on together.
