It’s amazing how much my everyday life has changed since my new Maytag Bravos XL Washer & Dryer pair arrived. I knew my previous washer/dryer pair was “bottom of the barrelâ€, meaning it barely washed clothes, and more often than not ruined them with holes – I suppose you get what you pay for. But, I didn’t realize how much the upgrade would change things.
Maytag has always been about dependability; for over 100 years, they’ve been designing appliances to last. When my Maytag Bravos duo arrived, I instantly saw the difference in the quality between my old set –which will remain nameless– and the Maytag Bravos XL. From the moment the pair was installed and ready to go (the delivery team was amazing by the way), I was ready, with dirty laundry in arms, to put the washer & dryer to the test.
First impressions? Holy moly is this set bigger than my old washer and dryer! The Maytag Bravos XL set is seriously sturdy – like commercial-grade sturdy. The size difference is both in height and capacity. I was immediately drawn to the 13 specialty cycles on the washer. There were so many choices, I didn’t know where to start! The one that most caught my eye was the Allergen Cycle. In the last year, I’ve developed some pretty severe allergies and I’ve been doing everything possible to lessen them. The Allergen Cycle is said to eliminate 95 percent of common household allergens, so that’s where I began.
The drum of the washer holds an unbelievable amount, up to 21 towels in a single load! I loaded it up, set the dial, added detergent and fabric softer, and pushed the start button. The process couldn’t have been easier; I didn’t even need to look at the instruction manual. Then, I sat there and watched the washing machine in pure bliss – Seriously, you would have thought I had never seen a washer before because I just stood there looking down through the glass in amazement.
I noticed a few things that I loved: the washer locks itself once the cycle begins (great safety feature), and there is a clock that counts down the minutes until the load is finished. Yes, it’s the little things that make me happy, but they are both very useful for me. Since each cycle has a difference time, I can gauge when I want to start the load based on how much time I have – I HATE it when clean, wet laundry sits in the washer.
I also noticed how little water the washing machine used. I have to admit, at first, this concerned me because I didn’t see how the clothes were getting clean with such minimal amounts of water, but the clothes came out dirt-free and fresh, so I didn’t question it. I can’t even imagine how much water/energy each load is saving me!
The Maytag Bravos XL dryer has very similar controls as the washer – you just select the setting you want based on the contents and push the start button. Super easy. The setting that I have a feeling I will be using a lot is the Refresh Cycle – which steams the wrinkles out of clothing once it’s dry. For years, I have avoided using an iron by popping clothes in the dryer for a quick cycle, and the Refresh Cycle is a gentler version of this.
I’ve had the Maytag Bravos set for over a month now, and it has changed my laundry routine in many ways:
- I no longer have to inspect every article of clothing for stains after it has been through the washer. For whatever reason, my old washer just didn’t clean clothes thoroughly. This set does.
- The Allergen Cycle has been my go-to cycle for most of my personal loads, especially towels & sheets. I still have allergies, which I suspect comes from our cats, but think the cycle is helping.
- I do less laundry. Because of the large capacity of both the Maytag Bravos XL washer & dryer, I am doing less loads of laundry per week. This gives me extra time to do things I want to do, like spend time with my family.
- I love how I can personalize each cycle to what I’m washing/drying. This is going to save me money on clothing because it doesn’t damage articles like my last w/d set. I feel, overall, my clothes are cleaner, fresher and will last longer now that I have the Maytag Bravos XL.
- Less water in the washer equals less money for me to pay each month for water and electricity. I love that we’re using less energy – as well as less laundry detergent!
It’s clear to me that Maytag has a reputation for dependability because their appliances are built to last and perform as promised. Yes, I’m still in my first few months with this set, but I don’t foresee any issues – sometimes you just know when you have a lemon, and I don’t feel that way about this Maytag set.
