A few months ago my family had the privilege to test out a brand new Cadillac ATS with OnStar 4G LTE as part of my ambassadorship with OnStar. Growing up, I always associated the Cadillac as an “old person’s car” – I would venture to guess that the demographic of the average Cadillac buyer is still higher than, let’s say a Chevy Malibu, but I can tell you, that theory definitely does not apply to today’s Cadillac. Once I got behind the wheel, my mindset completely changed.
The Cadillac ATS drove like an absolute dream! It was stylish, sporty and had all the elements I look for in a family vehicle, including OnStar with 4G LTE*. Now, my husband and I are seriously considering this model for our next car!
Before I go into my experience, here’s a bit of info on OnStar with 4G LTE:
- The built-in OnStar Wi-Fi hotspot1 supports up to 7 mobile devices.
- Passengers can connect to the content they want and stay connected to what matters.
- Built-in OnStar with 4G LTE provides a better in-vehicle experience than smartphones its powered by your vehicle, so you’re not reliant on a mobile device’s battery.
- A stronger signal means you have a reliable connection.
- The most powerful OnStar connection ever, with built-in services such as Automatic Crash Response2, Vehicle Diagnostics3, Stolen Vehicle Assistance4, Remote Door Unlock5, plus in-vehicle Wi-Fi.
For our test drive, we were given access to a 2015 Cadillac ATS for a week. This luxury vehicle had all the bells and whistles and still managed to come in under $50,000! I knew right away that the car just felt right. I'm on the shorter side and usually lean towards SUV's, but somehow this model worked for me. The drive was incredibly smooth and I found myself looking for places to drive it! For real... who looks for places to drive for no reason!?
We had a weekend planned at Walt Disney World that coincided with our vehicle loan, which really gave us a chance to try out OnStar with 4G LTE.
And here’s where it gets interesting. Here we are, driving on the interstate on our way to Disney World when an object falls off the back of a work truck, lodging itself under our vehicle. We knew it was stuck because we could hear it scraping the asphalt as we drove further down the interstate. It took about 2 seconds to make the executive decision to pull over before any damage could be done.
Remember this is a loaner car, a Cadillac at that, so I wasn’t taking any chances! My husband tried to remove the object with his hands without any luck, and in an abundance of caution, we decided to use OnStar for an on-demand6 diagnostics check.
During this time I was very thankful we had OnStar with 4G LTE because my daughter was in the backseat playing with her tablet while we waited for our report. She’s usually a worry-wart, but was too preoccupied with her games to realize what was going on. I found the console to be extremely easy to use as our devices synced up with the Wi-Fi as soon as we entered the vehicle. There really wasn’t much of a learning curve!
It didn’t take long to get our OnStar diagnostics report that said our vehicle was in the clear. OnStar offered to send someone to remove the object from the underside of the car, but before that happened my husband had the genius idea to put the car in reverse, which ultimately dislodged this thing—
To make a long story short, we drove the Cadillac away completely unscathed – I repeat, the vehicle left without a scratch! It was a nail-biting situation for a moment there, but I felt completely safe and in control having OnStar with 4G LTE along with its friendly guidance and vehicle diagnostics.
Back on the road we had a smooth drive to the Magic Kingdom, where we spent the weekend prior to Halloween. The drive is just under two hours for us, but it was great having in-vehicle Wi-Fi to use while my husband drove. My daughter played games and streamed a couple of her favorite shows via Netflix on her tablet, and I actually got a bit of work done on my laptop. It was awesome to not have to tap into my cellphone’s data plan for Wi-Fi! I can only imagine how convenient OnStar with 4G LTE would be on longer road trips or vacations.
Back home we used the vehicle for the rest of the week as we normally would. We took our daughter to/from school, went shopping and ran various errands. With each passing day I fell more in love with the Cadillac ATS … this was one loaner vehicle that I did not want to give back! Part had to do with the Cadillac itself, and part had to do with OnStar with 4G LTE. Seriously, it was perfect combination for a family car.
