The holidays are just around the corner, and if you're like me, you need to get a jump start on Christmas cards before you forget and it's too late .. at least, I know I have been in that situation more times than I'd like to admit!
My favorite holiday cards are photos cards, and that goes for both giving and receiving. I like that how we can express ourselves through our greetings and "let go" a little during the holidays. Gone are the days of stuffy Christmas cards with no personality, fun holiday photo cards are what's trending.
The great thing about holiday photo cards is that you only need a photo to make them special. And it doesn't even have to be professionally shot. In fact, the best photo cards include spontaneous photos where everything isn't matchy-matchy. Here are just a few fun holiday photo card ideas to get you started.
Beach Scene
If you're lucky enough to live near a beach, make your northern friends and family jealous by using a few fun sandy beach snapshots in your holiday cards.
Vacation Photo
My personal holiday photo cards almost always include a photo from a recent family vacation. Last year's cards were from our 2013 European cruise which showcased a family photo at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This year I'm 99.9% sure I will include this family photo in front of Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska. Using vacation photos make the cards special and I love looking back on our travels from year to year.
Pets
If you love your pets like they're family, consider a holiday card that makes them the center of attention. I would absolutely order cards with our cats if I could get a picture of them sitting still together for more than a nano-second.
Ugly Holiday Sweaters
Somehow the ugly sweater craze has caught on and become more than a 1 year fad. Stores like Target are selling ugly sweaters just for the purpose of getting friends and family together for pictures to post on social media channels. If you want a truly fun (and funny!) holiday photo card, get some crazy ugly holiday sweaters for an impromptu photo shoot.
Announcements
If you have something special to share, whether it be an engagement, a wedding, a pregnancy, a new baby, or a recent move— announce the good news through a clever photo on your holiday cards. My sister recently had a new baby, and I'm secretly hoping she make holiday cards with the birth announcement.
Remember, whatever theme you choose— have fun with it and make sure your cards stand out! If you can't have fun during the holidays, when can you?
