Have you ever joined a wine club? This month I was sent 2 bottles of wine courtesy of The California Wine Club. I think there is something totally special about having wine delivered to your door. It's like the ultimate surprise gift...though I guess you know it's coming, but it is still exciting opening the package and tasting the wines. This was my first experience with a wine of the month club, and I can't recommend it enough.
The process was extremely simple. Once your order is placed online, it is delivered to your door at the interval requested (once a month, every other month or quarterly). When delivered, the carrier requires a signature of someone 21 years or older at the residence. It should also be noted that wine cannot be delivered in every state, and you will want to check with state laws before trying to make a purchase. Luckily, Florida is not one of those states! The wine is securely packaged in Styrofoam and comes with the monthly newsletter--Uncorked.
The newsletter is what really made the whole experience fun for me. While one would assume I would break right into the wine, I actually took some time to read the newsletter and learned a little bit about the winemakers behind the brand --in this case Robledo -- as well as tasting notes, recipes and photos from the vineyard. I found the whole thing truly fascinating, so once I opened the first bottle, I already had a connection with the wine.
An issue of Uncorked comes with each shipment of wine from The California Wine Club.
The first bottle I opened was The Seven Brothers Lake County Sauvignon Blanc.
I usually drink wine in the evening, but this bottle was calling my name on a Saturday afternoon. The weather has been absolutely beautiful and I figured there was not a better time to give it a try. The Lake County Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect choice for a lazy day. I found this wine to be smooth and crisp, with hints of citrus. After my first glass, I added a little seltzer water and make a spritzer. Yummy.
The thing about this bottle is you don't need a special occasion or even a meal to pair it with.
I opened the second bottle a few days later with dinner. Los Braceros Red was much more full in flavor with a spicy finish. This wine would pair very well with a meaty steak.
What I like most about The California Wine Club is you get to choose between 1 each of red and white, or 2 reds or 2 whites for your monthly shipment. If you find a wine you love, it can easily be reordered. Plus, the club is a good value. For $36.45 (plus s/h) month you receive two new bottles of wine, with the newsletter, delivered to your door. Each bottle of wine typically retails for $30.
The California Wine Club features wines from smaller, award-winning wineries, whose wines are not typically found in stores. You can choose to have your wines delivered monthly, every other month or quarterly. There is no commitment and you can cancel your shipment at anytime.
There are four wine of the month clubs to choose from:
- Premier Club - Most popular club at $36.45/month, features wines from California
- Signature Series - For collectors and connoisseurs
- International Selections - From small "mom & pop" wineries around the world
- Aged Cabernet Series - Napa's most prestigious Cabernets aged 8 - 12 years
Right now you can try a one time shipment from The California Wine Club for only $13 -- Just use code momblog-11 at checkout.
Joining a wine club like The California Wine Club allows you to try new, award-winning wines each and every month. It truly takes the guess work out of buying wines in the store because each shipment is hand-selected to be exceptional.
The California Wine Club sent me two bottles from the Premier Club to review. All opinions are my own.
