Surprise your student with these adorable Apple Shaped Cupcakes for Back to School!
Can you believe back to school season is almost here!? For some, school is already in session! We're still getting ready and have a lot left on the BTS to-do list, including a ton of shopping. But even with all of the back to school madness, I couldn't resist sneaking in a sweet treat to get my daughter ready for the new school year. Just check out these ADORABLE apple-themed cupcakes!
These themed Apple Shaped Cupcakes for Back to School are made with boxed cake mix and homemade buttercream frosting (I'm perfectly content with taking shortcuts on the cake if the frosting is homemade!). The decorations include red colored sugar, Tootsie Roll "stems" and M&M candy "leaves," though you can also use Fruit Roll-Ups for the latter. The result is an absolutely irresistible Apple Cupcake that's perfect for the start of the school year!
Back to School Apple Shaped Cupcakes Recipe
- 1 box white cake mix + box ingredients
- Red cupcake liners
- 1 cup butter softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Red food coloring
- Red colored sugar
- 12 Tootsie Roll Midgees
- Green Fruit Roll-Ups or Green M&Ms

Preheat oven and line muffin tins with paper liners.

Prepare batter according to box directions.

Fill liners ⅔ full and bake according to box directions for cupcakes.

Allow to cool completely.

Whip butter and vanilla for until fluffy.

Gradually add powdered sugar.

Add milk until you reach desired consistency.

Add food coloring to achieve desired red color.

Frost each cupcake.

Sprinkle with sparkling red sugar.

Insert Tootsie Roll in the middle to make a stem.

If using Fruit Roll-Ups, cut 2 leaves for each cupcake and put into place
If using M&Ms, set 2 M&Ms to represent leaves.
