When you think of home and family, I always think of this Homemade Apple Pie. It's a family-favorite recipe with a fun non-traditional crumble topping!
And when I say that this is a family-favorite recipe, I'm not kidding. Everyone wants a slice. Everyone gets one. And they all eat every bite. There's never any pie that gets shuffled off into the trash can in 3 days or anything.
Every bite is eaten, whether it's served hot with a scoop of ice cream or cold straight from the fridge.
Homemade apple pie really is the best fall recipe.
Homemade Apple Pie is the Best Fall Recipe
One of my favorite things is coming up with a new variations on traditional recipes that make them seem even more "traditional" even if they're not. Like, for example, this recipe calls for a premade pie crust. Which is not really traditional, but it sure does shave off some time. Time which can be spent making this awesome crumble topping.
But, like I said, I love coming up with variations.
So sometimes I make things like little cutouts of leaves from the second pie crust that comes in the package. Or, I make the lattice, but add a little ruffle cut on the edges of each strip.
Nothing crazy, but those little bitty changes to the topping really does change the whole pie.

How to Make Homemade Apple Pie

-
Add sugar, cornstarch, salt, and spices to bowl and toss (set aside).
-
Melt butter over medium high heat.
-
Once melted add apples coated in spices and sugar.
-
Cook apples down for about 5 mins. Apples should be soft but a little firm.
-
In small bowl melt the butter for the crumble.
-
Add the brown sugar, flour and cinnamon to the melted butter and stir.
-
Once the sugar begins to caramelize and the cornstarch thickens the apple syrup, pour into the prepared pie pan.
-
Top with apple crumble.
-
Place pie dish on baking sheet and slide into oven at 350 degrees F.
-
Bake 40-45 min until golden brown on the top.
-
Allow to rest at least 10 mins. Then serve and enjoy!
No, really! That's it, just serve it up with a big scoop of ice cream or by itself. The kids will be asking for a second slice and you'll be scraping the crumbles up with your fork, cleaning that plate.
