Now that my daughter has invested some time into the Star Darlings book from Disney Press (she’s already on book 5 of 12!), I thought it would be fun to share a cool DIY project that we made inspired by the series and the release of books 6-9. {If you haven’t heard of Star Darlings, check out my previous post on the series which includes a little background on the first 5 books and A Wisher’s Guide to Starland.}
My daughter had the fantastic idea of making some Star Darlings Glitter Bath Bombs in the shapes of stars, of course, for a few of her favorite characters. Bath Bombs are super easy to put together and make bath time a lot more funรขโฌโ especially with the addition of glitter!
DIY Star Darlings Glitter Bath Bombs
What You’ll Need:
- 8 oz. of baking soda
- 4 oz. of citric acid (cheapest is on Amazon)
- 4 oz. of cornstarch
- 4 oz. of epsom salt
- รยพ tsp. of water
- 1 tsp almond oil (any oil can be used)
- A few drops of essential oil
- A few drops of food coloring
- Non-toxic Glitter (optional)
- Mold (We used this star mold from Wilton)
- 2 bowls – one large , one small
Directions:
- Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl
- Mix together wet ingredients, including food coloring Tip: If you want more than one color bath bomb, you need to split the recipe into different bowls
- Slowly add wet ingredients to dry ingredients. Make sure the mixture doesn’t fizz. Combine with hands or whisk. The consistency should be fairly dry รขโฌโ you do not want it to be wet!
- Test mixture by pinching it between fingers, if it sticks, it’s ready to go into the mold. If you think it’s too dry, add water a few drops at a time. Be careful, too much water will ruin the bath bomb.
- If using glitter, add a small amount to the bottom of the mold.
- Pack bath bomb mixture into mold tightly.
- Let dry in mold overnight. I put a cookie sheet on top of mold to keep everything compacted.
- Store bath bombs in an airtight container until ready to use.
Super cute, right!? If you’re wonderingรขโฌโ yes, the glitter will stick to you a bit after you get out of the bath. It really wasn’t a big deal though and my daughter liked how she was “sparkly”. You can put a smaller amount of glitter into the bath bomb (we used a lot), or omit it completely. You can also customize your bath bombs with different essential oils. I chose to use a mixture of lavender and lemongrass – just a few drops of each is enough for the entire batch.
