Making holiday decor is one of my favorite things to do and this Mickey Buffalo Check Wreath is one of our newest creations that I just can't wait to hang up.
Mickey Buffalo Check Wreath
Buffalo plaid is taking over the holidays this year! This buffalo check wreath is a super simple yet elegant way to bring some Disney magic to your farmhouse decor.
You can create this wreath at home for under $10 and will easily be able to find all the supplies at your typical craft store and the like.
What You Need to Make a Wreath
To make a typical wreath, you can pretty much make it anytime, anywhere, with any theme. For basically any wreath, you will need:
- Wreath Forms
- Ribbon
- Floral Wire
- Faux Floral Elements
While we used faux holly and berries you could easily adapt this wreath craft to include whatever you want to attach to your wreath. I personally think it would also be super cute with a “believe” cut out or maybe even a burlap bow to add some country chick - the finished result can be anything you want!
What You Need to Make a Mickey Buffalo Check Wreath
- Supplies
- 2 4-inch foam wreath forms
- 1 12-inch foam wreath form
- 1 roll 3-inch red and black buffalo check ribbon
- Floral wire or chenille wire
- ¼-inch black ribbon (about 24 inches)
- 1 sprig faux holly with berries
- Tools
- Hot glue gun & glue
- Wire cutters, optional
- Scissors
How to Make a Mickey Buffalo Check Wreath
- Start by hot gluing one end of the ribbon to the larger wreath form with the hot glue. I recommend using a finger protector or craft stick to hold down the ribbon so you don’t burn yourself with the glue.
- Wrap the ribbon around the wreath form, overlapping the edges by ¼ to ½ inch, keeping the ribbon snug against the wreath form all the way around. When you have reached your starting point, cut the ribbon and fold over the end, then hot glue the end in place on the back side of the wreath.
- Repeat the same wrapping technique with the two smaller wreath forms.
- When all three wreath forms are fully wrapped, position all three wreaths on your table, with the smaller wreath forms on the top of the larger form, on either side, about 6-8 inches apart.
- Fold a length of 10-12 inches of black ribbon in half, then thread this loop of ribbon under the spot where one of the smaller wreaths and the larger wreath come together, then pull the loop and the loose ends up over the spot where the two wreaths join, threading the loose ends through the loop of ribbon, pulling it tight. Tie the ribbon into a knot snugly. This ribbon is not intended to be the permanent hold for the two wreaths, but simply to hold the wreaths in place so that you can do the next step with ease. Repeat with the second smaller wreath, affixing it to the larger wreath, as well.
- With the buffalo check ribbon, wrap the point at which the two wreaths come together, hiding the black ribbon. Cut this length of ribbon a little long, then tie it tightly, bringing the two pieces of wreath together firmly.
- Then repeat with a second length of buffalo check ribbon and as with the original wrapping of the wreaths, cut the ribbon and fold the end over, hot gluing it in place on the back side of the wreath, covering the knot and making the front of the wreath look seamless.
- Using a piece of floral wire or a chenille wire, attach the sprig of faux holly with berries to one of the pieces of buffalo check ribbon holding an ear to the main part of the wreath. Then hang and enjoy!
