This Homemade Apple Pie Filling recipe tastes so much better than canned. Use these cooked cinnamon apples in your favorite apple dessert or as a topping for ice cream.

You know all those delicious fall recipes that call for apple pie filling? I've even posted a few, including these incredible Mini Apple Cheesecakes, Apple Pie Roll Ups and Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings.

All of these apple desserts taste amazing this time of year, and though it's super convenient to grab canned apple filling, it's actually super easy to make your own apple pie filling at home with just a few simple ingredients.

Apple Pie Filling

If you've never made your own apple pie filling, you don't know what you're missing. Everyone knows homemade always tastes better, but there's something absolutely irresistible about warm, homemade apple filling.

This apple pie filling recipe is meant to be used in an apple dessert, though I can confidently say, from experience, that you could eat these delicious cooked cinnamon apples as is— or use them as a topping for vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm. No one will judge.

If you do want to use this apple pie filling in an apple dessert recipe, it works wonderfully well for apple crisp, apple pie cookies and mini apple pies. Additionally, apple pie filling could be used instead of the apples called for in these recipes: Mini Apple Pie Bites, Apple Crescent Dumplings.

To prepare a whole, traditional apple pie, this recipe needs to be doubled.
